I run dumonde tech racing transmission oil. 80wt I believe. This stuff is really neat. Got turned on to it by my dealer and now I swear by it. It actually seemed to improve shifting.

I replace my tranny oil every hard ride (a weekend at Rasor, day at dumont etc....) on my R. If it's an easy one dayer with no sand and hill climbing I'll go two rides.

why wouldn't you run what honda designed to run in your 250r?i only run the honda 80w oil.it's designed for a 250r,by the company who designed the motor.

I use it in my auto, cycles, atc's, mowers, everything!!

The modern 2 stroke ATV tranny oils are somehow measured different than standard motor oils. I have no idea how they come up with it, but their 80wt pours like a 10w40. If you were to go into an auto parts store and buy 80wt gear oil and use, it would pour like molassis, and your clutch would never let go. If you buy Honda 80wt oil, you wouldnt know it from 10w40 motor oil.

Here is a first! : Every post in this thread gives a recommendation that will work fine in your bike. Take your pick. My personal favorite for a 2 stroke gear box- Dollar General house brand 10w40 for $1.19 qt. Change it often with no worries about cost! But if you feel guilty about being cheap, there is always Blue Marble 10w40 at $8.00 qt!

I use 10w40 standard oil, not synthetic. I have always used it and always will. I have never blown a gear or bearing, nor has anyone else I have ever met. Fear is a powerful thing......
