Well, as the tittle says.
I got an 86 250R in very good mecanical condition.
It is a lot better than my 85R beeing restored right now (search for: restoration has begun in earnest).

I traded a TRX 250R I bought to get some parts, but other than the rear brakes and swingarm it had nothing else. I didn't even run!
This is what I was looking for all the time. The plastic was pink, seat cover was gray, no radiator shrouds and broken front fender.
What did I do? I've recycled all the plastics from the 85R and it looks great, well, for a beater anyways (for the time being).

The problem is that this is a running machine in a lot better condition than the "prime" bike. I'll just use this one while I finish the other.
What do you guys think? What would you do?

As usual, here's some pics of my beater. Before & after (only a few hours after it got home)

The way it got home...

Other plastics, radiator shrouds, new holeshots (instead of the tractor tires that were NOT part of the deal), new, lower handlebars instead of the "chopper" bars.

The rear rims I'm keeping, the tires I gave back to the original owner since the TRX didn't work, that was the deal. Sorry.
This thing flat out rips...

Thanks guys:

The only thing this thing needed was working brakes (which it already has) and an overhaul in the front forks (this is in progress).
The engine is incredible, I changed the carb from a Mikuni 38mm to the factory Keihin 34mm and it is 100% better, it rips besides the Mikuni would not hold the fuel it just spilled it. For some reason those Mikunis have never clicked with me and it seems everybody else loves them, at least every 250R in the island.

Now, If I could only find a reasonable way to get these machines to Trike Fest 07?
Anyone has any Ideas? They need to be flown in and out...:(

Well guys, "The Beater" is in the Emergency Room.
The engine expired last Sunday. And everything due to a faulty radiator cap:mad:

Which brings me to this great question:

Where can I get a set of new water hoses for a 85-86R??
I need 2 sets of these for my 2 R's as the current water hoses are not great (or even good).

I'm buying an 85R for $400 on Monday (in running condition minus the axle bearing carrier) and taking all the parts that I need or are usable to finish the 2 existing R's. I figured is a lot cheaper than fixing 1 blown engine. The engine is fixable, but it will need a few extra $$$. It will eventually get a new top end and every single bearing, gasket and seal (plus all the nice painting balancing and the like) you know how it goes.

Here's some pics of the nice hole in the piston. DON'T LET YOUR MACHINE OVERHEAT, EVER!!!!!!

I used some clear hoses that I got from Lowes, they work great and look slick!

What did you do to shape them Oldsking?
They just made the "turns" without "kinking"?
That woud be great if I can do that.
Can you show me some pics?

Thanks,
TORKER.

I have a few NOS hoses. I'll see which ones I have. I might have them all but I think I only have two of them. Question; what is that rear brake? It looks pretty sick!

EDIT: OK I checked and I have the hose that goes from the bottom of the engine to the top and I have the one that goes from the top of the left radiator to the bottom of the right radiator.

Not trying to make this isn't a Classified thread so PM me if you need them.

For the 90 degree bend ones that are for the radiator I have yet to do, I was going to use some nice aluminum pipes ( kinda like what we use for Nitrous fittings on our race cars) for those and use the hose still. I did the ones on the side cover and water pump first, those we're easy to do

I'll get some pics tomorrow if I can

Dam, that was a catastrophic failure.. You'll have to split the case to get it all out.

From your original post - I love the rear tires and the front brake running the rear. And it's a braided cable ta boot !!

Dirtcrasher: Catastrophic it was. It ran out of water. Rads were dry as a desert. Luckily it seized right after we got out of the "Airport Trail" which should be called "The Devil's Trail" or "Inferno Trail" or something of that evil nature. That's how bad it was. If it were to fail in that trail, anyplace in there, It must be repaired in there in order to get it out as I doubt even a 4x4 would get it out of there. Maybe.

The first pic is as it got home, right now it's a hole diferent beast. The front brake works as does the rear and yes that was a very long S.S. brake line. Enough for the front and rear to be made out of that one. It no longer has the "chopper bars" and it has an 85 seat and it has rad. shrouds. The way it should be.
