200x top end rebuild expert advice

200x motor... I have most of the top end off and need advice. I have removed the circlips from the wrist pin/piston and pushed both ways on the wrist pin but it's not coming out. Does this take much force?

Also would like to know how to correctly remove/reinstall the 4 large top end studs. Thanks!

woops.. it's an 83-85 model. not sure exactly which one

You need to make a home made puller with some sockets and a 3/8 threaded rod to pull the wrist pin out. Don't even lightly tap on it. Some of them slide out - usually 2 strokes. Others are in there good and ya gotta use a puller as I described or you'll screw up the crank/conn rod.


I wouldn't touch the long studs unless you have to, you run the risk of them snapping off in the lower case.

Ok, A bit of heat and some raps with a socket extention and it's out.

So how about those studs? I got another bottom end this is going on that needs 'em...

Screw it, heat em up beat on them, jam vice grips on there - you got it.

seems like there would be a better way than vice grips. don't see anything in the manual about it.

I saw the tool you mentioned in the manual and I'm going to get the parts to use that for re-install if I need to.

Don't remove them.There is really no need to.

Tighten 2 nuts against eachother on the stud and spin it out,,,you may have to heat up the alum case's a bit around the Stud to free it up,,,,,,a few taps on top (with a nut spun to the top) Will also help loosen up the corrosion you get between the steel stud and the aluminum..

I'm sure there is a wristpin removal "tool" - but 2 sockets, a few washers and a 3/8" - 16 threaded rod take care of it. Any side to side banging is really, really, really bad for the big end connecting rod bearing......

i agree with dirtcrasher my buddy did that to his 200x and messed things up bad with the rod bearing.

They should Slide right out the way i described, i have Done hundreds of them like that.....Most Profesional your gona get unless they make a tool for it.

I always thought they just slid out. On my 125 the pin slid right out no problem. I don't remember any honda I've had torn down have a press in pin.

it should just slide out, my engine had some pretty major problems and it still slid right out, i didnt use anything more than a screwdriver to push it through. it shouldnt take much force. as for the "studs" im assuming your talking about the 4 long dowel-like things coming up from the bottom end.... theres no need to remove them, they dont get in the way of anything your going to be doing.
