I'm trying to get an old 3 wheeler, 1982 Honda ATC and I can't get any spark how many volts should be reading on the voltmeter when I crank it over? I presume 12 but I just thought I'd ask.
Thanks

Loss of spark is a common problem. In fact over the past 18+ years I have found the exciter coils fail the most. To check it you need a good ohm meter. Un plug the black with red striped wire coming from the stator ( behind the pullstarter / flywheel ). One test terminal on the connector the other to the motor. You should get a 215-240 ohm reading. The lower the reading the weaker the spark.
This test takes under 1 minute to do.
FYI, This topic has been discussed quite a few times on the forums. A few quick searches should bring up lots of info. Search for: "Exciter coil", "loss of spark", or simular terms to find the threads. Here are a few:

If your not getting any electric to the coil, then you won't get anything from the plug wire.
