...and do you have any pics of it?? Im thinking of building one up but Id kind of like some ideas, I havent seen too many aftermarket parts for them. Also I heard the '83 250R had the same motor as 81/82 (or at least the mounts), is this true, and if so wouldnt an 84 motor fit too? Also what will interchange between the 1st and 2nd gen? I realize it wont be too many parts though. And is there like a 300 or 310 kit for them? I dont know too much about older R's yet.
Ive already got a color scheme planned out, Ill post it later.

81-84 250r motors are all the same 81-82 had red engines and 83-84 they were black. Honda made a 300 kit but they are rare and expensive. Mugen also made a 360 kit but they are evn more rare then the hondaline 300 kits.

Here's a link to a thread with a couple of pics of mine.
http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=53088&highlight=300r
It has a 300 kit, 85R carb, K&N with outerwares, Pro Tec aluminum intake with boost bottle, Kerker full exhaust, Works rear shock, old school Dirt Works vented front fender and a Hondaline headlight guard. I need to take a few new pictures since it now has a +3 Westcoast swinger and a +6 Durablue.

Thats a pretty nice looking R there. I was thinking of going with Maier white plastics, and painting the tank white. Id put a blue seat cover on too. Id keep the headlight plastic stock though. I like that chrome exhaust guard.
How do you like the extended swinger compared to stock? What about the wider axle? I was thinking about +3" on the swinger, and maybe an axle idk about that yet.
Thanks guys this is some good info!

Theres a bad MSpaint job of what I want it to look like. Its basically a 350x color scheme, but I think it looks good on the older R.
What do you guys think?

Here is mine in progress. It has weisco piston & rings , Boyeson reeds , Reed spacer , DG silencer , Mugen Pipe which hasnt been put on yet , It has been jetted to match the mods , 200X Hubs and wheels which i will be putting 20's on soon because the 22's are way to tall and make it very tipsy. The color will stay as it is since it still looks good but one of these days if it starts looking bad I may get creative with it.....Good luck man they are fun bikes.....;)

Just out of curiosity, how are the mugen pipes compared to the dg pipes? I have a DG pipe on my 82... love it! what kind of parts are you looking for specifically? i have a few extra parts! let me know as they are starting to go up on e-bay.. but if there is something specific, i'll cut you a deal here!

I got my Mugen pipe from a guy that lives about 20 miles from me.He had it in his garage along with an 82 250R that he was going to put it on but never did.I bought it for $100.00 and it is pretty much NOS never been mounted.Im not sure how they compare to the DG I havent put it on my bike yet and I have never had one with a DG but I did like the 100.00 price more than the over 200.00 for a DG ...I have a DG silencer on my stock pipe right now that I bought new from denniskirk for 98.00 and it was well worth it.....Very fun bike and lots of things to think about for it.Hope you find what your lookin for and post some pics when your done with it :beer

This is more in the planning stage more then anything, as we are still unburying parts from the snow, so Ill have to see what there is after everythings been dug out. I got a complete motor and a half, some exhaust pieces and a bunch of random parts off the machine. I have the header part of the exhaust and it is in very good condition, Im almost thinking of repainting it and just buying a DG silencer. Most of the more 'universal' parts are gonna be aftermarket anyway.
From what I take it there used to be 2 complete machines...one was a rider and the other got used for parts, and the motor got blown up in the rider, and somewhere in between they got parted out a bit. At this point a frame would be the most helpful, although I think theres one buried somewhere. Other than that Im just gonna collect parts as they pop up (and I have $$ for them  ). Anything helps though!!
As someone mentioned above, the 81/82 and 83/84 motors are the same except for color, so would that mean all the performance and aftermarket parts for the 83/84 would work on the 81/82 motors? Theres a lot of stuff I want on this motor that I think I could only get as 83/84 parts. I think I have a lead on several 300/310 kits too.
The main $$$ source for this project are going to be my 185s and 200. I dont ride them too much anyway, mostly just the Big Red when its not in the shop . Im going to take the 83/84 250r forks and triples off the 185 and make it a normal 185. Will the 83/84 triples fit on the 81/82 250r frame? I think the forks would be a little long, but I like the thinner front tire better, and I think that you can swap springs around to lower it a bit.
And what do you guys think of the color scheme? Maier only does white and red fenders, and I think it has too much red with red fenders. Also the tank needs to be painted anyway and I like the 350x color scheme so thats what its based on. Let me know what you think of it!!!
Thanks for all the help guys, Itll take a while before its done but Itll be sick when it is!!!!!

Im sure the mugen had more top end power, like an high rev, not to bag but the dg's really suck compared to others. The mugen is better/

Alright with a little more research, what I think im gonna do is either use this motor for parts for another one...or rebuild it. Whichever one happens...its gonna be sweet!!! I think im gonna end up using a 83/84 250R frame though, because I like the stance better, and I already have a full front end (currently on a 185s -- when the forks come off, itll be for sale-the forks will be replaced with normal ones), and I like the tank + shrouds a lot better. Theres also a lot more parts available it seems.
I got a couple of questions though, one, I know that the 81/82 and 83/84 motors are the same, but are they exactly the same? Like will all the parts interchange? Also I need a new crankshaft, the rod is seized, I guess I could just replace it with a new A/M rod, but where there ever A/M cranks made for the early R's? And were there A/M clutch baskets made, this ones missing and I wanted a new one? And does anyone here have a 83/84 frame they would want to sell?

Nice bike Nick, Leave it Red. I know I'm shooting myself in the foot for saying this since I would like to buy the rear fender if you changed the color, but if your dead set of doing it let me know.

Hey thats not actually mine, thats someone elses pic that I edited to see what I wanted one to look like. I never ended up getting mine anyway, the guy supposedly had enough there to make a runner but most of the parts had somehow dissappeared over the last few years. I have way more than enough projects anyway, so its probably better he didnt have it all in the first place.
