Why would you want to upgrade the rear brake? There isn't a current rear brake on the market that's even as good as the original 250R. All the new quads have single piston calipers, while the 250R is a twin piston. If you so a search on here you will find some information of using a dirtbike front caliper, but basically its the same as the original.

Yeah. I just purchased a YZ400 front caliper to put on my R. I was having trouble finding a 250R rear caliper in good shape to put on my R, so I just bought one of these. A plus side for me is that I do not need to buy an e-brake block off kit now either. (Its also a twin piston.)

No I haven't installed it yet. It is coming tomorrow.. I can give you details then.
But I got the idea from a post in the Open Forums (I think). He said you just have to make a few mounting holes in the caliper larger in order to make it fit.

I'm with Derrick, the dual piston R caliper is an awesome brake.

Glad I saved 2 of them to rebuild and Ebay someday....

There was a post on this awhile back.I think they used a newer yz front caliper too.cr is also twin piston.I remember someone saying something about 250r calipers and how they have plastic pistons to keep them from rusting.I think the bike calipers have steel pistons.

a upgrade for 250r rear brake would be to rebuild the master cylinder, and stainless steel braided line. Go through the caliper, grease the pins and slides, maybe replace the seals for the piston.

i cant find picks right now but a front yz caliper works great...maybe better then a 20 year old one

i used a 03 yz 400 or 426...they are the same and all you got to do is file the mounting holes a little

I have 4 or 5 rear calipers, all rebuilt w/ new stuff. I don't predict me to buy a rear caliper anytime soon, also, enough stuff to rebuild 3 calipers.

Not sure about the calipers but i put a 06 cbr600rr master on mine with very little mods. When my caliper goes i'll prolly use a cbr set-up

The 450r rear caliper is dual piston, i have one on my r but i also have the whole 450r swingarm and shock too.
