Hi I have a 1985 honda 250sx and my axle just broke. When I first got it I was ridding it and I realized that I only had one wheel drive. So I barely got it back and then I realized that the axle was broke. So I brought it over to my friends house to fix it. After a closer look I saw that someone had put on a hub that had no splines. So the just bolted on the right side hub and the welded around the nut. If they would have just gotten the correct hub then I wouldn't be having these problems.
So the hub still had the end of the axle welded to it. We torched it out and then welded the axle straight to the hub. That job held up until yesterday. I now have nothing left to weld to. I need a new axle and the correct hub. My question is will a 1985 honda big red axle fit on my 1985 250sx? Are they the same. I have heard that the 1986 and 1987 axle accepts different hubs. Is this true? I think I can get a 1985 big red axle and a1985 250sx right side hub. Will these work together? Or should I get a 1986 big red alxe and both hubs? Will this work with my 1985 wheels? I don't know what to do. I have looked on bike bandit and the pictures look the same but the part numbers are different. Does anybody know if these parts will work or what I could use? If anybody has the parts I need please contact me.
Thanks,
Chris

I’m guessing you don’t have a big red and 250sx to compare them. I have a 1985 250es big red, and a 1985 250sx. The big red rear end is built a lot tougher than the 250sx its also wider I'm pretty sure. I have had some rear end problems (bearings) and had to replace the whole rear end and (the swing arm also ruined). So I got a complete rear Yoke and hubs and all so it would go back together quicker. I have the rear axle and hubs for a 250sx that are in fine shape I could sell for 25$ for the parts and then you pay the shipping. the shipping shouldn’t be over 20 bucks at the max for that stuff pm me if interested would love to help you out. I will negotiate with you to. if possible ill put it on ebay for you?. If you would like I can get pictured of the parts for you. Thanks, Anthony

man that sucks. Unfortunately I can't help ya but you can always remove whats left of your axle and take it to an atv junkyard and match it up. We have a few here in houston.

Hi I see some parts I could use on ebay. 1985-250sx hasn't replied to me yet. Well the auction for a 1985 big red axle has 9 hours left so I hope you reply to me by then. I have most of the rear end apart. How do you seperate the brake backing plate from the axle?

I'm not sure if a BIG RED axle will fit you're 250sx but I do know that an 85 BR and an 87 BR have different size hubs.

85-250sx just sent out the axle and hubs I need. What a nice guy. I have the whole rear apart. I am going to look for a new set of bearings when I am done writting this. The rear end was filled with water so it wrecked them. I also need new brakes. What is the best way to get the old bearings out?

The regular bearings are easy, you had better hope that the pinion bearing and shaft are in reuseable shape, there a bear to change...
