Cr80 too small?

I would like to know if I am too big of a person to race on an 80. I am 5'7 and 130 lbs. I am done growing and don't know if I should get a 125 or not. I've seen the 125's and they just look massivly tall and I think I would be hassling it too much. What do yall think I should do?

Those CR80's rock and are a blast to ride no matter what size you are. But I feel you will be wanting a 125 in the near future due to the lack of power.

i agree, i am the same size as you about. 5'6"125lbs. best bike i owned was a 97 cr125, try to find one, screw a cr80 i got an 89 its not fast. you can lower a 125 front a rear like almost an inch + the shock sage and your at the size of an 80.

also look into a KX100, good bikes, if you want a 125 or a 250 but the seat height of a 80 get a husqvarna, all the bikes have a 35" seat high, and yes they are good bikes also.

I share in your frustration. I too found that dirt bikes were too tall for me when they started using single shock rear end suspension. With my 5'7" being at 165 lbs (back then), I had fewer opetions than you. Most 80cc dirt bikes will haul me around, though a bit under powered. For your 130 lbs though, I think youll find a CR80 hauls you around quite nicely. The main question is what type of riding youll be doing. If you are running a track, the added height of the 125 wont be a problem. If you are a woods rider, youll be miserable. I honestly find a 125 too tall for woods riding, while an 80 "fits". I solved my problem back then by buying a Yamaha RT180, a single shock dirt bike based on the early Yamaha monoshock system. This setup is totally inadequate for MX, but I was a woods rider by this time and it worked well enough in the woods to complete two Blackwater 100's honorably, and I remember passing a lot of short guys on tall MX bikes who were tipped over because they couldnt reach the ground. Id give teh 80 a try, keeping in mind resale is a lot better on 80's should you decide its not adequate.

If I was to get either. I would run it on a track, and hopefully start racing in some of the local indoors. I'm not wanting to fly. Just something to have fun on. Also it doesn't have to be a Honda...

why not a 100 or 80 expert, they are alittle bigger than most 80's but still smaller than 125's

The 125 height would probably not be an issue as long as it doesnt keep you from doing proper starts but what I would recommend to anyone who is considering racing is to contact the track or race organziation you are considering, and see what classes they offer BEFORE selecting a machine. Most have websites with their classes listed. Youll want to see what class would serve you best, and then select the best machine for you to run in that particular class. Mini classses often have age limitations, and certain age oriented classes often have machine limitations.

great ideer why not get a cr80 roller and drop a 125 or 250 in it? my buddy put a 125 in his cr80 it hauls and he feels comfertable on it!

I just did a bunch of reading all over. The YZ 85 seat is 32" tall.... The YZ 125 is 38"
I measured how high that would be compaired to me and the 85 only comes to right above my crotch. That just seems to short. The 125 it is.

Let me know when you might get one, then maybe we could ride together. Even though mine is a huge monster (2002 KTM 300EXC), its always fun to get bikes together to ride.

get a 125 from around 1993+ they really are not that tall. heres a a me on my cr125, it was about as tall as a KX80 bigwheel. YZ125's were junk i think, i owned some and hated the external powervalve. a CR125 with a steel frame will work great for what you want. they feel as if they are a 200 and not a 125 since i used to ride a KX250, i felt the 97 cr125 i had was a perfect built bike. 80's are cheap but then again kids own 80's and they require to much work.

if not get a CR85 big wheel or a RM85 big wheel or a KX100, you wont go wrong with a KX100. dont go by seat hight either beause your checking on new bikes that do not have shock sag yet. yamaha's have always had tall seats, my 95 YZ125 had a 39in seat hight but i still road it fine, just hated the seat on it.

The seat height changes when you sit on the bike. Get a 125 at least. 80's are for kids to race, they suck on trails. If I were a 130lbs, I would buy a ktm 200 or a kdx220... and lower it or cut the seat if need be... My buddy is 5'6''/ 140lbs and he rides a CR250 with ease...Its better to have power you dont use than want power thats not there.
