Many, many more. It's gotten to the point where it is difficult to tell just what some posters are even saying. I'm not sure its a battle that can be won though. Perhaps mods could sentence chronic offenders to remedial English class in the chat room taught by Trikeaholic.

Somebody on these forums once said that they always copy and paste there text to Microsoft Word or Word Perfect and does a spellcheck on it, I used to do that to until my computer crashed and now I dont have any of those programs. But it was a really good idea to make your writing at least look like english.

Get Google toolbar with pop up blocker and spell checker. Doesn't help with punctuation though.

I think a lack of punctuation is the worst. Reading with no punctuation makes me think Christopher Walkin is in my head. And Amen to the LOLs...way over used. Although I feel the Woot cant be used enough...thats like Homer Simpson yelling WooHoo after everything. Sure, it might get annouying, but it's always nice to see a slow person that happy.

funny post guys (i almost started this one with "lol")...lol, KIDDING! I just had to chime in and say that I'm just a horrible speller. I've always seen that Google spell check thing but I've never used it. Its super easy and I'll use it from now on so people don't think I'm some stupid kindergartner.

What drives me crazy is the poor use of apostrophes. Like writing:

Lot's -- That means "lot is" --As in, makes NO sense.

Apostrophes indicate possession, or show a contraction (for shortening a word). For example, it's means "it is". Won't means "will not".

Just because it has an "s" on the end, making it plural (i.e. more than one), does NOT mean that there should be an apostrophe.

No one had " pancake's " for breakfast this morning. Now, you could say that "the pancake's covered in syrup"- because the apostrophe indicates that the "Pancake IS"........

You get the point. :postwhore

This concludes my rant.;)

im really really bad at spelling so i downloaded Firefox 2.0 i think it is. it has spell check. all you do is type in a forum like here at 3ww and if you spell something wrong it will put a red line under it. then go to the red lined word right click and look for the word you are trying to spell.

Question - I have always wondered about the plural of 200S and 185S, as well as other.

Is it there were 2 200S's?
or

I just saw 3 200Ss driving down the road. It looks goofy without the apostraphy (sp)

1 - 200X
2 - 200X's
OR
2 - 200Xs

Just always wondered, proper English says the it should be two 200Ss, but it just does not look right to me.

84honda200s
02-12-2007, 04:45 PM
wow man thats a danm good question. i would say 200s's just because it looks better than 200ss that makes it look like a 200 super sport (ss).

wheelie king
02-12-2007, 05:15 PM
If it is something the 200s HAS, like the muffler, then it is the 200s' muffler. Like the "Jones' house".... if it ends in an "s", then generally, you would show possession by attaching an apostrophe AFTER the S. If you are pluralizing 200s, like as is there are 3 of the trikes, then you would say that there were "several 200Ss" (pronounced esses) at the event. Looks funky, but if you had to write it, that would be it.

And another thing- if A, E, I, O, U and SOMETIMES Y are vowels, then When is Y a vowel? Now that I do not know.

I think "y" would be a vowel in the word try; since you replace the "y" with an "i" to show past tense (tried).

One of my favoite pet peeves on this forum is the mis-spelling of the word "interchange". I'm not going to say who does it, but they spell the usage as "inner change". It may be due to the individual's(note use of correct use of the apostrophe) verbal pronunciation of the word.

Another good one..............

I have picked this up on the board, and I am not sure if it is short hand or just some people's ignorance, but I usually type the word prolly - instead of probably. I like how it sounds, looks, and it is shorter. I am submitting this to Webster for his next release - Prolly I will submit it anyway!

Spelling does not matter as much to me as it does to all of you, but what does eat at me is the many "lol"s that plague most people's posts. It might be beneficial to fix that.
