Why do the FourStroke rear sprockets float??

Just like it says...

The 200X's and other fourstroke ATC's I've seen have a flexable rubber mounting where the sprocket mounts to its hub on the axle.

The 250R's, just like the motocross bikes has a solid mount. It's no different than welding the sprocket onto the axle.

Whats the deal?

Why does the 200X have to "float", I think the 350X has the same deal...

the rubber probably wouldnt handle the power of a 250r, so they mounted the sprockets solid

in the extreme cold at brapp's last weekend the rubber shrank and gave me a loose sprocket on my 350x. Now its fine that it warmed up a little bit.

My 86 has no rubber gromets. The older X's do though. My friends was very loose today. Seems like the cold does shrink them, because after we parked them in a garage it went back to normal.

called a cush drive, allows flex during hard acceleration and downshifts/ engine braking. the aftermarket, i.e. durablue, axles are rigid mount. I am constantly tightening the chain on the 250r, hardly ever on the 350x, which had the stock axle, put a DB in it but waiting on engine parts.

I'm pretty sure the 81' to 84' 250 R's have the rubber mounted sprockets, I guess they decided it wasn't neccessary in 85':wondering

my 83/84 250r axles have the rubber groments in them, my durable doesn't, while the Nasa axle does. Maybe it was some atempt at the "cush drive", 86/87 200x's have groments also.
