Anybody know if the rear axle from an '87-'92 Tecate 4 will swap with the '86-'87 Tecate 3 ??

I dont think they will. The tecate 4 was only produced from 87-88 The sprocket housing and disk housing are way different. I never owned a 86-87 tecate 3 yet but I think axels are almost the same in all year 3 wheelers. But are not inter changeable.

hey roger i dont think they will. the spline and bearings are the same but the spacer inside the bearing carrier is longer on the tecate 4, about 3 mm if i remember right. i thought about this to as i have been in search of a good axle for mine too. does any body out there have any good axles stock or aftermarket? i have two that the new bearings are super loose on, has anybody else found this when rebuilding a rear.

i have never heard of this working, first time i have saw that thread though also. i have seen a company that made the rear swingers for the bikes and incorporated a 400ex bearing carrier into the swinger, so you could use the 400ex axle and bearings and all, to give you more choices of axles, etc... but last time i checked they weren't making the t3 swingers anymore. they just had honda listed.

can you let us in on the name of who was making those swingers that held the 400ex carrier. i have been toying with the idea of making a new swing arm maybe using a 250r housing.

suppose you could shoot em an email to find out if they can still do it. i think this might even be someone here on the boards company.

If the splines and bearings are the same then surely it would just be a matter of machining down the spacer so it can fit into the T3 Bearing carrier.

I've asked this question a few times on here, It would be great if someone with an 86/7 T3 who has access to a T4/Mojave or Lokota could pipe up and give us some gold on this subject.

I found a pic of a T4 axle to compare. It's a small difference but 1 that will prevent a swap. It looks identical EXCEPT for the width of the bearing surface on drive sprocket side. The T4 is wider...twice as wide.

I just got an e-mail from them asking why so many e-mails with the same question from so many different e-mail address's. Looks like they've been swamped with qustions about making '86/'87 T3 swing arms since scooterroo posted the link.:w00t:

Damn!! Love to have about 5 made. Custom. Use the '86 Honda ATC 250R rear carrier style and axle. That way there would be plenty of parts available.:w00t:

LOL, no problem! :beer

It was kind of flattering to be honest. We'll see how things go this summer, maybe I'll make a couple more. No more quad tubes though, way too much work in them.

AS for the 86+87 you can use a tecate 4 axle.

I have been keep this under my hat for alittle while, after that ordeal with the decals I swore I'd never help this stite again.I give you 1 more chance.

there are 2 things you need to know.

first: you can only use the eliminator axles.the tecate 4 is shorter then the tecate 3.so a plus 4 is only going to be +2 or stock.

second: you must use a rad lock nut there is not enough threads for double nuts.

THANKS TRIZTUNES!!!!!!

Hey tunes
Sorry you had an ordeal? on this site, but its not fair to punish us all big fella.
Especially us 86/7 T3 owners. We are a rare bunch of good looking rosters, surely you wouldn't want to hold out on the brothers.......

Got any photos of an 86/7 T3 fitted with a T4 axle?
