restore plastic

I'd like to know what anyone has done to bring the fenders back to life. Mine are good, Just got sun faded over the years. Thanx Dan

take a knife hold it straight up and down with the sharp blade to the plastics and scrap it. makes mine look good.

Um, i dont know about that :? but I heard wet sanding works great. I plan on trying that in a few days.

I used steel wool on mine then I sanded them with sand paper I started at 400 and went up to 600 grit. It made them look great, if you go on up to 1000-1500 grit paper they would look better than new. Josh

smokinwrench is right, that is what i do to mine, start at 400 then go to 600

try paintin them in linseed oil with a brush then get a rag and sprad it tround and rub it in, then set them in the shade to dry a few days, the inseed wil be a little sticky after the few days but not enought to annoy you, works great, my little test, any way good luck.

Paint them;I'm sure there is paint that will stick to plastic available.

Jugernaut your right there is a paint for plastic. Go to www.krylon.com and check out their product called FUSION. It is a newer paint for plastics. Or you can try this site which has various products to make paint stick to plastics. Hopefully this helped.

I've got some plastic renew that Im' working on my 350x fenders with right now. I can see it helping alot, but I think the key is to really sand it good and I can see already that it's going to take quite a bit of time, and some of the really deep scratches probably won't ever come out. I am working up from 220, to 400 prob and then might do a bit at 600.

I have done a few and depending on how bad yours is the sanding sugestion works great. I took steel wool and rubbed them down good. This pulls all the white faded areas off. It come of like a powder. then I wet sanded with 400, 600 then 1000 grit. after i hit it with a buffing wheel with some fine rubbing compound and finnished it with 3M marine wax. They came out really nice. the following is a pic of my 200s. It was pretty bad and faded. It had some bad scratches too but they came out with sanding. I have never used Renew but i have heard it works great too.

I have never used the renew but heard it works great. U used the sanding method ( takes a lot of time to get the scratches out) and worked my way up to 600 grit. It left the plastic looking a little faded, almost white. Then I used a heat gun to heat up the plastic and the original color shines through. That is a great tip that someone put on the board a couple of months ago. You have to be carefull not to overheat the plastic, but using the heatgun you can restore factory color in just a little while.
