WELL I SAY YOU CAN :D :D

Heres's some pics of my new project 85 350x. It's got some issues ...but it RUNS....very well actually. The first thing you guys will pick up on is the swing arm. It looks like its off a suzuki quadrunner to me...they welded some brackets on to hold it..it doesnt look like its gonna be a big deal to grind them off though. This ones gonna take a while...but thats ok...theres a sweet 350x under all that rust and dirt...just wait and see.:D

the second picture shows Sandpuppi to be 100% correct. Also - look at the rear ride height - looks to be sitting real high - this thing is a mut for sure - but none the less a great project and a good buy. Keep us posted on details of your rebuild!

I thought the same thing, but its a combination of the fenders not fitting straight, the tanks basically just sitting on the frame ,and the wrong swingarm with bearings that are shot,so it leans. With everything off there actually straight.

They just slapped 200x fenders on it, and the clutch lever looks like its from a Schwinn... Theres no brakes what so ever....still the motors worth the price I paid(in my opinion), It looks to have been rebuilt and runs great.

No progress yet, My garage is really small, not to mention FULL :D (2 quads,2 trikes, workbench and tools)and unheated ...so until it warms up this one gonna sit. I'm just buying parts right now. As soon as it warms up a little I'll strip it down to the frame and start with a clean slate.I should have most of the parts by then too.....It's KILLING me not to be able to start on this one...

Well some might think I payed to much, but I was'nt having very good luck finding a nice one in my price range and close to home. This was the first one I'd seen in 4 months of looking so I didnt want to let it pass. I paid $400 for the turd, maybe to much but I've got a GOOD running 350x. It was only a hour away and theres already replacement parts in the mail. I'm figuring I'll have about $1000-$1200 into it fully restored....not to bad ...at least in my opinion.

Hey, I appreciate the offer, but I really enjoy the doing the restoration myself. Theres nothin like being able to say "I did it all myself" when your finished. The only part of my 200x I didnt do myself was paint the tank. I dont really look at any of it as work, I love every part of it ,from tear down to final assembly, its all just FUN....but then again some say I'm

bp739
03-11-2007, 09:18 PM
Well the teardown started this morning and 4 hours later the turd is just a pile of parts on my workbench. It came appart way quicker than the 200 did .Looks like its time to build a bigger garage...

well just a little update on the turd.....she's polishing up nicely.....not so turdly any more..:D .. I couldnt help but put it next to the 200x :D for some inspiration.

The mounts they welded to the frame for the 200x swingarm came right off with a little bit of grinding, and cleaned up well. Now it's wearing the right swingarm. I also had to grind the exhaust stud off and weld on and re-tap a new piece.

man that makes me want to do another one again.

I love 86 200 x's ...yours is beutifull.

the 350x will be geat to and they are great. but there is something about a late model 200 X.I got to get one of them

also the 250SX it does it for me to. i want one of those also.

the 350x is a bad @$$ bike but after kick starting them when they don't want to start,i cannot bring myself to own one. a wet and hot motor out in the woods some were ,drunk with muddy boots on, kicking that thing.i will start screaming,

Thanks, nothin done to the motor...it ran great before I tore the bike down, no smoke or anything...so I decided to go with it like it is, that was just about the only thing good about the bike when I got it...
As far as repairs, I had to repace all four exhaust studs...no fun at all. One came out easily, the other three had to be drilled out and re-tapped.:(

Still have a long way to go,I'm hoping to have it finished by spring so I can take it to WV as my back-up bike on our yearly trip to the HM Trails....:w00t:

Never been much for hondas, don't like the style(chopper lookin) but that looks great, definitely put some good time into that, not a turd anymore :D. Makes ya feel better, I finished one of my ALT's the other day, now I gotta do the other, and that one is gone, no plastics, burning oil, had to put in a new fuel pump, but, good news is, it started up after 15 years in a couple of pulls, then 1-pull after that :D, so somethin's workin :P.

Thanks for the compliments guys...I'll defeintely put some before and after shots up once its finished...should be finished by the end of February...hopefully :D

what did you paint that engine with if you don't mind?

Its just your regular Dupli-Color 500' Engine Enamel..available at just about any auto parts store...the color is LOW GLOSS BLACK..it has an awesome finish...just far enough between gloss and flat..it seems to hold up well...it's been on my 200x for over a year now and looks just as good as the day I painted it...no chipping or anything.

I'm SOOOOOOOO close...got some parts in...front fender, chain, UNI filter...tank shrouds are here just waiting for some mounting hardware.. new bars and grips too. I didnt put my tank decals on yet, cause the tanks getting repainted ..it doesnt quite match,so hopefully next week she'll be really close to being finished..

It kinda sucks about the tank..I could actually be RIDING it a little now that the chains here, but I dont want to put any gas in it since the tanks coming off again...OH well SOON VERY SOON  I just need a few things yet...basically a grab bar , a tail light..and send the seat to Mrs Moshman...and thats all she wrote,on to the next one.... ..another 200x:crazy: and a trx250x

I generally buy the material myself and stretch it. Costs me 6$ and comes out great! But, I have no means of the "HONDA and ATC" logo that I can count on to last.

I inquired them about a cover and I believe it has 2 seams, not a TERRIBLE thing but obviously seamless is sweet. I think Honda must have had a heated press of some sort that put the material in the rough so someone could simply tug it a bit and staple it.

I just wondered how you got a seamless cover from them, maybe mine won't have seams but I think Tammy said it would.....

I'll just be happy to have a nice cover with logo's.... :w00t: :beer
