ok,im new here...but on sat im getting a tiger250...this is the story.....I live in upper michigan...and back in about 1986 i used to ice race..i was 17 at the time.In my home town there was a sporting goods store that was also a tiger dealer,we used to go in there and gawk at the 2,,200s and the 250 that was in there.. the owner of the store sold both the 200s and used the 250 for ice drags himself...he then raced it for a few more years....then all hell broke loose with tiger and he lost the dealer part...some years after that he sold the store.......so last week i was talking with some old friends about how we used to ice race and about how much faster the old 2 stroke 3 wheelers were than the stuff today, and we got talking about those tiger things...lol..one of the guys said i wonder if that guy still has that tiger 250. we called him and this is what he said....yea i still have it i restored it about 6 years ago and took it for a few rides and the cdi box gave out..so he hasent did anything with it since....the thing looks great..he also has extra forks, brake pads,cables,stickers...he thinks he stil has the banner and also a few tiger baseball hats..also the manual..told me i could have it all for a grand...so im picking it up on sat...kinda cool that this is the tiger i used to watch race in the 80's and now im getting it....just need to get a cdi box or , he knows a place that rebuilds them...about 250 bucks.....also last week my best friend picked up a tecate 4......i hope to smoke him in a drag...lol....
i will post pics on sat or sun ...

Well, they were kind of junk in terms of MX racing. They were only good on flats... and if you raced both MX and flats, everyone went to the big 3. And they didn't force Tiger out of the picture, the insurance companies did with the liability insurance imposed due to the pending lawsuits that were popping up all over.
You're finding them in decent shape because they were tossed to the back of the garage once 3 wheel racing stopped and the 4 wheelers took the show. Then they just became dust and junk collectors. How many times has someone said they found one under a bunch of boxes or other crap? They weren't really meant to be driven on a daily basis like the big reds and moto's.

WOW...all i can say is wow...i didnt even know you guys thought i was kidding about getting this thing...lol..anyways..i am getting a place to do up the stickers.. and all it needs to run is a CDI box...i have a number for that now...calling on it monday....i do have to put the front brakes on and get that all working..this trike has been raced all its life and still kicks ass...the owner was showing me about 100 or so trophies that he has got, mostly firsts but a few seconds...in the ice drags he pulled 82 mph..he has a time slip from that i seen.. he is looking for the 8 ft banner and hats that are in storage, hes giving me those also...i also have all the papers on ignition timing foe the rotax engine as well ass a rotax engine parts list from tiger...as far as other parts go...the new down tubes are going on and the old ones might be for sale....the brake pads im keeping...and cables.......i wood love to find newer or better plastics, is anyone re making them yet?.....as far as what im gonna do with it.....RIDE IT.....and probly ice drag next winter....its in its blood to run...so who am i to say it shoult just sit....lol
smyers33
01-21-2007, 03:35 PM
That is just awesome.... I think it takes some balls to race that thing. If you do plan on riding it, I agree you should get some new plastics, because those fiberglass ones are extremely rare, and break easily. If I were you I would keep those plastics in a safe place, so if you ever decide to sell it to me, it would bring a lot more $$$!
P.S. Did you notice how I said, "sell it to me?" lol :)

I had a pair of banshee fenders here and I think with a little trimming they would work on the Tiger frame . You would have too trim the tool box off the bottom and make some spacers for the seat .I just thought this might help then the original plastic will still be intact. Pimtout I would fiberglass those fenders underneath would look better and no one would know the fiberglass adheres great too the plastic.

see many years ago when the Dr was vacationing, in the mountains, he was hiking very high, well he slipped and proceded to tumble down the side of the mountain, in the process he hit his head many many times, resulting in a brain injury where he thinks his tiger is the sickest around, but dont be worried he also thinks he takes the sickest dumps, he sleeps the sickest, he eats soup the sickest, and even has the sickest trash can. All is well and im sure your tiger rates up there with the rest of them. enjoy
