I am preparing for my next project and really want something "different". I am a big 4 stroke fan, but I want my next project to be a 2 stroke. I either want a tecate or a tri-z. I have had a 250r and I know how great they are. I do not want another 250r at this time. I would really appreciate it if you guys could give me some advice on what the difference's are in the early and late model tecate's and tri-z's, and which would me the best choice. I am going to try to get both a tri-z and tecate, but I do not know which years to get. Thanks alot.

As far as the Tri-Z's go the 85 has a 5 speed tranny and the 86 has a 6 speed. Also the 86 has better (larger diameter forks) and a better shock (stiffer spring), I think. Other differences are VERY minor as far as I know.

84 t3 has a drum brakes up front, 85 has disc, the 84-85 is way different then the 86-87 models. i own an 85 and have had a bit of a hard time, but nothing to bad, in finding parts. i have come acrossed alot of the parts that are discountinued, but i eventually end up finding what i need somewhere wether it is ebay or the classifieds, or whatever. the 86-87 is atotally different bike, i havent done to much with them but plan on getting one sometime in the future. the tri-z i havent been to into, not saying i dont like the bike, i just have always been a kawi guy. but there is alot of guys on here that can help you out in the tri-z department.

Something different would be the 84-85 tecate. No other bike is as ugly totaly different then all other bikes in my oppinion. It dosent look racy unless you have a # plate and with that huge front tire, it just throws you for a loop.
I like scooter am a kawy fan. And I was told a long time ago that if you buy a tecate chances are you will get bit by the "tecate bug".
