so i might be looking at a 1986 350x in a few days.. and i would really like your guys input on what to look for... i know the general trike stuff to look for (axle bearings, engine blow by, etc.), but i wondered if the 86's were known for any certain problems that i can keep my eye out on.. hopefully i come home with this thing for the riight price, and in return can sell my 85 200x to pay myself back for the 350!!! thanks in advance fellas...

if it's stock I don't know of any major problems other than check th frame over good to see if it is cracked or repaired anywhere. I hear and read that some had this problem...I have owned 2 85's and 1 86 and have never had a problem with anything, frame or otherwise. with it's age check over front, rear, swing, and steering bearings and whether or not it smokes - normally when it starts to smoke it will be at start up and shifting gears.

if it is modified...IMO good luck. I've heard some bad things when people have modified them...ie - grenadeing(sp?) motors, broken valves, pitching rod, etc.....

let us know how it goes.

I have 2 '86 350x's. One frame was cracked on both sides about 3 inches above the footpegs, this is the most common place for cracks on these. The other was cracked on the right side under the fuel tank, I have never heard of one cracking here though. Both had the usual cracks at the rear by where the rear fender release is. All of the cracks were easily repaired, although if it was ever cracked, make sure it was repaired correctly. Neither one of my trikes were repaired correctly and both of them wore the front tire unevenly. I have since repaired both of them and they both track straight now. Make sure you also check the rear carrier for play (bad bearings are common on stock carriers). And lastly, make sure the owner does not have it warmed up for you, mine smoked a little until warmed up, also you can see how easily it starts cold. If it is a pain to get started cold you probably are going to have some work to do. These trikes are great to work on and ride, and are generally very reliable, unless they were severely abused.
