Both the axle and the bearing carrier are different between the 85 and 86 right?

I've got an 85 with a Durablue axle in the stock bearing carrier. I'm considering replacing the carrier but I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

thanks

I know LSR still makes one for the 85 but its pricey compared to the 86/89. You may want to look into RAD if your looking for an aftermarket carrier, might find it cheaper if they make the 85 model.

Heres LSR's at $231.00
http://www.lsracing.com/honda-250r-parts.htm

Just looked on ebay and there is one by RAD for the 85, search honda 250r carrier. Theres actually 3 of them listed for the 85, one rad, one lsr and one without a name.

What is the difference between the 85 and 86 carrier??

The 85 carrier has a smaller outside diameter, if you were to put it in a 86/89 swingarm it would be too loose.

hope this link works....the difference is the area ware you ajust the chain...see how thin this 85 carrier is

here is a 86 style http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda-TRX-400ex-BILLET-bearing-carrier-250r_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43972QQihZ015QQite mZ250070588343QQrdZ1

Oh ok, i have wondered about that. i guess if you got a good deal on an 86 carrier you could hog down the od of the carrier if you have access to a lathe. Do the axles interchange??

id guess the sprocket hub is offset different since the 85 carrier is thinner on that side.

but i never messed with the older style....i just noticed the adjustment area difference

I won that one--$127.50. I got a RAD axle lock nut too--$49.95. After shipping, $191.82 for both. Probably don't need either piece but oh well--it's only money, right? :p
