I need to know if the flywheel off of a 1985 atc70 will work on a 1982 atc70. If you know please reply asap. I also need the whole Stator Assembly and Pull Starter.

Thats a good one,I can't remember if the '82 is a 3 or 4 speed !! Off the top of my head I think it will, but not 100% sure . Do you have the recoil for the '82 ,If it is narrower than the '85 recoil the '85 would be different ?? I believe the 4 speeds were interchangable though, rounded edges on flywheels=3 speeds more squared off edges on flywheel !!!

Well from the Specs page the '82 was the first of the 4 speed tranny. I need the whole stator assembly (plate, points), flywheel/pulley, pull starter and cover.

By the way, when I first brought it home the other night I shifted through the gears and it would still roll. I talked to the guy I got it from (I traded my parts 110 for it) and he said that if it doesn't have oil in it, it won't shift. I am thinking he is BSing me. Ever heard of that?

Thats a crock, oil has nothing to do with shifting ,it ain't a hydrstatic set-up.It should bench shift,as I would call it fine, although oil should be in the case!! If it's a 4 speed tranny the '85 flywheel should work as well as the backing plated and all of that ! Like I said it is a rounded edge flywheel instead of the more squared off type. Hope I helped ya out!!!

Another thing when you shift the gears ,you can eliminate a few things by taking off the neatural indicator, put a rag on the splines and put vice grips on it and shift that way, that is the shift drum,do it easy so you don't mess up the splines though. That will tell you if the shift drum is good,if it still does'nt shift it's internal,if it does it's part of the shift linkage !!
