Calling out to all '86 Tecate 500 owners.....What years of KX 500 motors make the best motors for the swap?? What are the major changes between the various years of KX 500 motors??:wondering

Not much changes really. 89-present is prefered for the availability of parts and stronger trannies. I have an 87 and have had no problem finding all the rebuild parts I needed.

As far as I know the KX motors have not had a dimension change in years so just about any motor should fit and line up the rear sprockets.

I know my 85 T3 accepted the rear mount (swingarm bolt) perfectly and lines up the chain. The suspension parts even fit.

Yeah 89' and newer are said to be better. I would use the first one I found a good deal on.
