I am about to upgrade my stock exhaust on my 85 250r, and think im gonna go ahead

upgrade to a 38mm carb. ESR sells a keihin 38mm airstryker, does anyone have

opinions or experience with those? I do some trail riding and drag racing, and am

wondering if this will be work for my riding style.

thanks in advance

Get a cr250 rad valve and a 38 or 39mm pwk, when you get tired of that power, get your cylinder ported.

PWK is a model of keihin carb. Try ebay to get one.

I just bought a 91 CR125 Carb off ebay. 36mm oval slide. I hear they run pretty good and give you good power for a cheap upgrade. I bought mine for $53 and it also came with a twist throttle. SO keep checking ebay because a new carb is expensive.

this is my opinion but a carb is carb how much difference can if make other than the size. i bought a 38pj off ebay and it really woke up my engine. all a carb is for is to give the motor gas right? than whats the difference in these pj's or pwk's or A/S? im not putting any of these down i would just like to know how much more power are you gaining by spending almost $100 more on the the carb?

I'll be the first to say the a/s is a pain to jet! atleast it was for me..But in the end its well worth it...

I'm no carb expert but heres what I've leaned from experience. The 85 carb is one of the worst in my opinion, round slide is old technoligy, a stock 86 would be an improvement by itself with the oval slide. I've ran alot of PJ's with the oval slide, 36 for short course and 38 for more top end. The PWK in my opinion is the next step up from the PJ with the D slide. If your going from a 38PJ to a 38PWK your probably not going to notice any difference in performance. I have no idea about the airstryker, is it the same as a PWK or is it in its own class? Looks to me like its got a few more hoses than a PWK. If Yamahondaman says not to use one for top end thats definatly worth taking into consideration. I'm sure he knows what works and what doesn't in this game.

Thanks for all the input. I talked to one of the guys at ESR, and he recommended the 38 mm airstryker. But im gonna keep doing a little more research before making a final choice.

Thanks

What i have found is this, a 38mm seems to wake up the top end but adversely affects its low end grunt in the trails. A stock 86 oval seems to have great low end and not so bad top and is reliable, imo unless your doing a lot of drag racing i would stick to the stock 86 style. Just my 2 cents
