Just bought a 1980 ATC 110 from a guy who has had it for a while, he's tried and tried but can't get it running. The engine is complete, EVERYTHING is there. I did a compression test and it seems good. I took small engine repair in highschool but don't remember anything. What should i work on, tear apart or check on to get this thing going???

Assuming you've got spark, I'm guessing the carb needs a royal cleaning. Every trike I've got had a gummed carb with plugged jets when I got it.

Yeah. I'm a quad guy so i've never been on something with a metal gas tank. Its got rust in it, is there any way to flush the rust out or should I just buy a plastic tank?

Take the tank off, and the petcock off the tank, it has a screen on it, clean it, and flush the tank, i use water, let it dry or run some denatured alcohol through it, get an inline filter like one for a lawn mower for the fuel line. Fresh gas, clean the day lights out of the carb, pop in a new plug and give it a few pulls, see what happens. Good luck:)
BTW New, and even used tanks can be costly, clean it up if you can, keeping the tank full if being stored for long periods will stop future rust.

If it is a 1980 model, that means it has points, I would definetly check those out first, and also check the timing of the spark(points)As for the gas tank go to a pool supply and buy some muratic acid.

or phosphoric..
phosphoric eats rust way better... but the tanks are hard to clean when you put chemicals in them.
If it is not that rusty just put a small can of acetone in it and put about a pound of marbles in it and seal it off. Shake shake shake (shake some more) and pour
or get a POR15 kit if it is really bad.
If you go looking for phosphoric acid the easiest way you can get it is to buy a gallon of nickel safe ice machine cleaner.. really good for soaking nasty old parts.
(will eat potmetal tho, - rinse good and dry good right after)
