hey guy, ive started to get parts to build a 86 200x. I have a frame, swing arm, shock, triple clamps, front hub, one fork tube, pegs, aftermarket bars, engine skid plate, air box, rims and tires, and some other misc. I have a line on a motor. What im wondering is what part interchange with these. I know there very different than most, but ive heart that air 250r axles will work, is that true? If it is, wahat carrier do i use? what other parts interchange? any forks? anything with the trx 200sx? Im also wondering what issues people have had with these, and what kinds of upgrades i can do in the way of both the motor and the chassis. This will be my first "ground up" build, and my 1st experiance with a race style trike. Thanks for all the in advance, everyone on this site is great.

engine upgrades well depends on how much you wanna spend. you can get big bore kits, stroker kits, high compression piston and rings, high performance cam, port work, and more. but danm you need some good cash.

I don't think you can get much engine work for a 86/87 200x anymore, Piston, cam, port/polish, bigger valves, but the strokers and big bores aren't around anymore, unless you send your motor to Tc racing and spend big bucks. This what I would do, 350x tripple trees, 350x front end(or 83/84 250r, if you want a sharper turning), 83/84 250r extended axle, 400ex hubs, you will need a 38t(or what ever size you want, made for a 83/84 250r(sidewinder and sprocket specialties), the 83/84 250r carrier looks like it will fit, its very very close, I didn't try the 83/84r carrier, I had to file down some of the chain adjust tabs on 86 200x carrier to clear the sprocket bolts. Also Dg sells a 27mm carb, Cobra and Dg sell a pipe(I have a cut down cobra header and 350x supertapp on mine). As for the pegs......86/87 trx250r roll design pegs fit into the peg plates and are far superior. Pm me for a list of mods and how/what I did to my 86 atc200x.

if you want to see something, you need to see the list of mods to my 86 atc250r, it makes that list of modifications look small. I have more mods on the way for the 200x, new 83/84r extended axle(not the nasa that got bend), 400ex lsr hubs, hyper beadlocks and turf tamer tires, more porting, web cam, bigger valves, 12:1 piston, rebuild of the forks w/ terry kit, rebuild of the works rear shock, rad carrier and some cosmetic stuff. I'm seriously into mx, my trikes and quads are heavily modded for mx.

whats the diff between a big bore kit and borin your motor .60 over?

most cylinders you can bore up to 2-3mm over, a big bore involves a new sleave put in the cyinder, as to use a much bigger piston, stock bore on a 85-89 250r is 66mm, a 295 big bore is a 72mm piston. The biggest you can bore the stock cylinder would be 69.5mm, this is why you need a sleeve installed. Boring a clyinder over really doesn't make that much more power, most of the time you adding max 30cc's before you need to relseave, most big bores start with adding about 40-50cc's and depending on the kit you get, and other stuff you can add 100cc's or more. There is no big bores or strokers commercaiy made for a 86/87 200x, yes you can bore and stroke a 83-85 to about 230, but its essentially the same motor in a 82-current xr200r. The 86/87 200x motor had a short run, it was modified for the honda fat cat 200, I think a version of it was used in a trx200sx, that was short lived too. Tc and Dg used to bore and stroke a 86/87 200x motor to about 260cc's, but it wasn't a very relielable motor. Curtis Sparks did a test of 240cc 85 200x, it made great power, but by the end of the magazine test, the motor blew-up already.
Many people think boring your cylinder 20 over, adds 20cc's to the cylinder, NO, boring a 85-89 motor to 80 over should make it a 330, right???? Wrong, its 262cc's

Hey Death, can you post up some pics of your 200x. I've read a lot of you posts; you have a lot of knowledge about these machines.

I have learned it all from friends and the shop I used to work at. I do most of the maintence. I also figured some of this stuff out w/ different model parts fitting due to the fact that I own/owned them and have the parts the swap out. My new project is a custom frame, no-link, atc 250r that uses trx450r pegs and rear master, dirtbike forks and such is in order too. The things I have never learned is: rebuilding a 4 stroke top end, rebuilding forks, and a bottom end. Most of the other stuff I know how to do.

I don't have any current pics of the 200x and its not here right now, more motor work and suspesnsion stuff is being done.
