well later on in the wrench report (phase 2) it tells you to go a full 2mm insted of the 1.5 so now your just dealing with 6mm.. are you shure your meaurement is correct?

with a higher exaust port a smaller combust chamber is needed. To correct this you might need to take alittle more off the head to keep it around 175psi
correct me if Im wrong guys...

But you will lose bottom end!! so you need to widein the (top sides) 1mm to give you the bottom to mid back! ronnie says.. the way it is now you have just increased your top end and taken from your bottom. Im shure he will chime in later when he gets back to work...:naughty:

its not a big deal .5 is nothing to be worried about..But you do want to widen it to give the mid punch.

is there a honda wrench report??
You don't have to do much to the 250-R's .. the TRI-Z's are Ported MORE than the ATC's ..
The "Honda Builder's" Do LOT's of Diff. Stuff ...Paul Turner,CT,Phase Five,Trinity,ETC. ,,,, then there's................... ( ME ) !! :naughty:

It's gonna be okay! I did this back in the day trying to save some money trying to port. I did the same thing you did. The grinder worked better than I thought or I had the average attention span of a 13 year old....... anyways. I tried it out with it being 1 mm taller than wrench report phase 2 .... Top end was strong, bottom end was non existant and mid range was soft. I then took it apart and ground out the sides about 1mm each side tried it out and gained back some bottom end and a nice midrange...... plus really good top end. Then the rings got caught in the exhaust port..... I then learned to chamfer the edge of the port so it would not catch. I have done both wrench report stages... Both work very well. I also went through some jugs porting my own stuff. Bottom line. Don't panic widen it out some chamfer the port shave the head some more. Or try filling the chamber with some welding. I tried that on a Banshee way back in early 87 and it really improved the bottom end. Of course that was with a brand new head welding on used aluminum may not work so well. Throw a 38 carb on there with some good reeds get a good pipe and silencer. Make sure you do the mods on the intake side as well. Get the suspension mods done as well definitely find some 86 forks the 85's flex way too much or use the forks off a YZ. Yes you will have to get new triples. change to 86 pegs... The 85's bend too easily. I really miss my old Z's They are a great bike that needs some attention to the details. I loved em cause it was easier for me too move my fat ass around on em. Now if ya go with the YZ Power Valve set up later on you will notice some improvement s in power band etc. Good luck. Don't panic. and kudos to doing your own work. Merry Christmas to all
