I'm in a pickle right now guys. I'm not sure if I should bid on a R thats near me or if I should hold out and get a liquid cooled. It's an excellent deal, I'm just not sure if I'll be happy. I know I will, but I want something that will last and I'll be happy with forever. I don't want to be kicking my self in the butt in the next couple months wanting an 85 or 86. Any input and opinions will be greatly appreciated. I know someone has gone through this

well, I picked up my 83 thinking it was an original 250 but lucked up and ended up with a hondaline 300 kit on it, I really enjoy it, the power is great, but easier than a liquid cooled, I miss the 6th gear, if its good shape I would go for it! I know that I dont plan on ever getting rid of my 85 and my 83 becouse they both rule!! and as long as its a 250 and not the hondaline, parts are still easy to get and plentifull.

I bought an '83 250r from a local guy for $200. The chain adjuster was frozen and I never got around to unsticking it. The trike was all original, and ran great, shifted great and the only thing wrong was crappy old fenders and seat cover. It was a blast to ride. I liked it even more than my x. Money got tight over the summer and I had to either sell it or the x. I decided to part with the r since it was the newest addition to the family. I should have just tried to make things work with the money situation. The previous owner of the r loved it. He told me that him and his buddies would ride every weekend in the summer, all weekend long with no problems at all. He did tell me that his buddies tri-z's would beat it in a race though. I am definately going to try to get another air fooler, and hopefully a water cooled one also.

smyers33,

I was in a similar situation. I always wanted a h2O 250R. I came across a good deal on a Air Fooler locally. I am super happy with it. It has good power and with justt a few mods (if stock - pipe..carb) you can make them run real good. A few good side notes - the air coolers are even easier to work on than the water coolers. just 10 nuts and you can pull the piston. Parts are still plentiful, and there is something about old school technology. I love my air fooler and will never part with it. In a few years, I am sure the right H2O will come along, but for now I am 100% happy!

Thanks a bunch guys. I'll let ya know how it goes. The seller has answered some of my questions, and everything is mechanically great, no cracks in plastic, no frame cracks or repairs. The only thing he said was that the breaks could be bled to make them stiffer, but they work fine. Wish me luck!

Yea I'm so happy! Just figuring out when I'm going to go get it. Emailed the seller talking about meeting half way possibly. Should I run premium gas? With what kind of oil mixture. Ehhh, I'll worry about that when I run out.

I use castor 927 mixed 32:1 with 93, I use this on all my 2 strokes, it works perfect, in fact when I got my 83 I rode it for about 5 mines and drained his whole tank of gas and added mine, and rode it again, and it ran totally differnt + better! Im still getting used to mine, they feal alot hotter than a liquid cooled, and you can hear alot more engine noise as well, but dont worry Im sure everything is cool. GOOD BUY MAN!! ENJOY IT!!

that 250r looks nice. i think you got a good deal. i know i looked a 83 or 84 air cooled 250R and it was just to beat for 1200. i like the air cooled ones better then the watercooled ones cuz ill never be able to aford a water cooled R. i like simple air cooled motors anyway, less mess.
