Well my luck at finding cheap machines hasn't been to good lately. Been burned alot but this was my week. I just got a hold of an 86 350x for $500!
Runs good, and is almost stock except the grabbar, rear skid, and handle bars.
Now it does have the usual knee dents, and broken/stitched rear fenders but otherwise its all there and it ridable condition.
I feel so great, $500 bucks! Haven't come across a deal this good in a long time. Only bad thing is I had to do some paypal credit swapping to get the cash on short notice but it was worth it!
Pics as soon as I can. Just finished pressure washing it and takin it for a test ride about 30 minutes ago. fired 2nd kick after sitting in a barn for 4 years looking like swamp thing.
PICS ARE UP!

You're more than welcome to ride it but you should stop by maryland and pic it up cause at this moment I'm going to be limited to two bikes for TF. One must be my 250r, and then I can choose from three, triz, 350x, or the 500r. Hmmm...wonder whats the second bike I wanna bring....lol
All i'm gonna be able to get it cell phone pics but they're comming up in acouple mins.

Hey Louis... Looks like a Great score! So It's pretty complete? What are your plans for it?

hmmm plans. well this kinda sucks cause I got a 350x down stairs in my basement I had been working on. So now I have 2. i may just leave this one as is and ride it untill I get the other one together. The project downstairs has new valves, and new 10.25.1..er I don't remember the numbers, its a weisco that starts with 10,something.1 compression. and a completely new clutch.
I guess I'm gonna do 2 things for sure, service the forks, and put a new chain on it. Otherwise this one may just stay as it is for now. Later it'll get a cosmetic freshen up.
Thanks again for the help. I owe you buddy.
Oh and I HAVE TO CHANGE THE OIL. Its black as night. I think it may need a clutch but I'll just keep riding it till it wont go anymore then tear down the clutch. I have a weird feeling the clutch basket is pretty grooved. I'll probably file the fingers down as a temporary fix. Its not really gonna get anything untill after christmas and all the financial stuff is back in order. blah.

Nope! The 500 will have some good seat time before trike fest this year. My inverted KTM forks are in transit to washington as we speak. I'm hoping to have them back and mounted on the bike by the end of january!
And the triz is make small progesses too. I've got some lapping done on the cases and Ronnie just sent me some dowels and studds and stuff. I'm thinking I might go powervavle on it. Its definitly a backburner project.
500 is all that matters right now. lol

nope sorry man. The one lense is good. I just need a single lense and some bulbs and the headlight is good. the 350x downstairs has a nice looking headlight setup that i may just swap so i can ride in the dark.
I can't spend anymore money on bikes unless its the 500. I've got some custom colored plastic to order soon too. hehe.
Dammit!

Looks similar to my $500 350x except it sounds like you didn't have to put anything together before you could start it like I had to. Good deal!

Hey Louis, I was just wondering what tripleclamps you used (Custom Machiened?) to utilize the KTM inverted forks. What did you have to do to the frame, if anything (New Bearings, ect.)?
I am building an ATCR500R out of an '85 ATC250R and an '86 CR500R. I'm most interested in what front end to use (I want inverted shocks, KTM WP specifically), where can I get a subframe/specs to build a subframe, and will I be able to use my '85 ATC250R plastics? Also could I use new rear fenders/seat from a newer Honda 450 quad?
Any insight to my project would be helpful. Thanks.

Insight huh? I'll tell you man its hard to give insight on a project like this. Wish my website was still up so you could look at that. As far as the forks several of the boards members have used the forks from a KTM85sx for thier inverted fork conversions. Basically your only choice for tripple clmaps is to have a machine shop either customize the 250r ones or make new ones from scratch. I'm still working on that myself.
AS far as a sub frame thats kinda a toughy. Basically you need to pic you're seat and fender combo then make a subframe that works for those.
I chose fenders and seat from a trx450r and they seem to be working really well for me. As for moch up. I sugest you get some inexpensive material to start with such as conduit, and start cutting and measureing for peices of your subframe. Then duck tape it all together as tightly and closley as you can for mockup and fitment. Once you have something you like and think is functional then go buy the material you really plan on using and cut&weld.
You'll get it together eventually. There's alot of great 500 conversions on this board you should just do a search on 500r and it will bring up alot of info.

Daylight, out of the barn, pic's please.
Don't mind me, I'm just much more picky with pictures then all others I guess (except edog) and really do want to SEE it! :beer
