The long and short of it is that I found some 19yo kid 250 miles away that was offering this listing on Craig's List:

I have for sale a Mint Conditon 90cc three wheeler. This bike is in amazing conditon. the body has no cracks or scratches. The seat is in perfect conditon. the bike starts every time with just one pull of the pull starter.it does not leak anywhere. It even still has the original tire that still have good tread on them.

I call him up and say I'd take it on the spot if what he says is accurate. He then says he'll sell it to me for $200. I said I can't get up there, and he says he can maybe bring it to me.

Well he got his buddy to drive it down to me (6 hours of two lane) and it got here and wasn't what I would call mint at all. The recoil was broke and the paint job (rattle can) was pretty orange peely. The fender was tore up on one side and the gas tank was dented. I think it's orange under all the red.

But anyway, I figured that it was probably worth the $200 for sure and I gave him $80 for bringing it down ($280). I felt kind of sorry for him and his buddy spending 12 hours on the road and was very thankful it wasn't me driving there.

Well I got it push started and it seems to run pretty well other than a bent throttle cable hanging up.

There's an old-school patch on one of the rear tires and the incorrect front is a little egg-shaped. The front fender is fiber glass and I think they were supposed to be metal in 73.

He also gave me some adapter plates and extra rear hubs for 100x3 wheels and these little extensions that move the front tire about 2" further down and forward.

I placed a $50 order from dratv and think I got everything I need to make it mechanically sound.

So is $330 a decent cost? I'm looking for a rider, not a restoration. What do you think I could get for the balloon tires? I'd like to maybe replace them with newer wheels and reduce the price of the rider trike. Is this a good idea or would I be better off to flip the whole thing to someone who might restore it and get a less collectible one like the '79 atc110 I drove as a kid? My boy is only 2, but I figure he'll need one in about 4-5 years. Thanks for the responses and the great board.

Wow - that machine is a has a few different model bikes parts on it - and isn't in mint by any means - but I'd sell the tires on eBay - get some adapter plates for the tires so you can use normal atv tires and rims and... RIDE THE HELL OUT OF IT!
:)
Good deal for $280 - probably get your money back for the tires.

I'd say you got a excellent deal, I'd restore it though for sure.

It's the type model that is your duty to, ya know?

can you say slow speed wheelies? for days on end.... My dad had one of those trikes. I have a picture of him in bowling shoes, without a helmet riding a wheelie. I wish I had a scanner :D

Nice grab! :D

Either restore it or sell it to someone who will restore, then take the money and buy a rider. That is in really nice shape - prolly worth double what you paid for it including delivery.

It could be pretty easily restored - lots to work with there.

Those tires look way over inflated. On those old tires, there is a spec that says if the tire is bigger than a certain measurement when inflated to so many pounds of air, the tire is no good. I don't have the measurement or the pressure handy at the moment though.

73's were not called US90"s. Those tires won't bring much on eBay. Only good ones bring over $50. I think you got a decent deal.

i have a 1973, and on the frame and engine, the codes clearly state "US 90 " then the serial number

See now this is where I get confused. My dad's 90 looks just like your 73, same colors on the tank and everything. He always thought it was a 72, I think its a 73. anyways, like you said, the motor is stamped "US90", yet the fenders say ATC 90 and so do the brochures, should I call it a US 90 or an ATC 90? I know its a dumb question but this has always bothered me, lol

flip it to someone that wants to do a restoration. That bike is a great piece of history that needs to be restored. Get yourself a 110 rider for the kid.
