I figured while my trike is apart would be a good time to change them if they are bad. What is the best way to find out without tearing the whole trike up?

Do what jeswinehart said and also try this. While the trike is on the ground about 6 inches infont of the rear sprocket grab the top and bottom of the chain and kind of squeeze them together, while your squeezing the chain, look up by the swing arm bolt where it goes through the frame and see if there is movement then. Kind of funny, I just put new swing arm bearings in my '85 350x. They wern't bad, I just was tearing everything apart to clean it and ruined one of them taking it out.
