Hey people. Glad to finally be on this site. Heres my story. Back in 1988 my Dad bought a 85 250r and I fell in love with it. I was only 7 years old and never got to have much fun with it. Everytime he would try to teach me how to ride it I would go full trottle and pop the clutch and well you knows what would happen. Well my Dad is a welder and travels for work and hated to do it but in 90 he got rid of the bike and left me with a 125 Yamaha atc.
As time went by I was tired of the old Yellow hammer and its hard to start engine so we went shopping and yet again we passed up on a 250r and I ended up with a Honda 125 atc with electric start. :w00t:
Later I grew out of that bike and went to the yam 200e then yam 250 moto four then a 450 es Honda....
For years a 250r has been in my mind and now I am 25 and my boss is always listening to me talk about the power in the fable 250r but he never see one before or even heard of it. I always search for them for sale and 2 weeks ago one came up for sale, they are rare around here. It was a 83 250r. So my boss jumped at this and bought it for $1300 canadian. So still I didn;t have one BUT the other day I was talking about it and picked up our local trader rag and there was an 83 250r make an offer.....
So as the story starts to sound boring I went and looked at it and wow it looks like @$#%. It isn;t a 83 its an 81-82 no tags on it to identify it. The motor was a virgin original piston tore up and the cylinder walls are not hurt. Plastics are completely ruined, seat looks like a 2 year old refinished it and the honda symbol is like a pink on a white tank. So buddy told me there is new barnet clutches, new bearings in the rear, new sprockets 12 front 43 back and a new chain. The tires are decent the frame is solid and the fat exhaust pipe has more patches than a quilt blanket. I BOUGHT IT FOR $400.
Now I have a few questions. I need piston ring kit. Which brand do ye suggust? I need plastics and can the tank and plastics be changed out for say a 83 up style? Can the triple three be changed out for the narrower 83 up style with or without changing the forks? As well I would like to have a longer swing arm for the rear. Any ideas how to make it look sporty like the 83 up would be nice. Not to dis the 81 - 82 design but it just doesnt look sporty enough for me. Any pics or a 81-82 dressed up would be nice to see.
Thanks for your time and I will get pics up as soon as possible and God doesnt it feel nice to be back on the saddle of a three wheeler.

A Lawn'r hey? Pretty cool, I've spent a lil time up there. You out from town much? Should get a group going for a ride out at Lil Lawn Beach some day this summer.

Hope he still has the Tri-Z. I'd of bought it as soon as it popped up but 800 for a non running bike wasn't my idea of a deal.

I dont know when but Little Lawn Beach was were my Father use to drag race his, so it will be there eventually. For sure will look you up when I head that way, hardly ever out there anymore. I gotta go look at that Tri-z.
Not sure if I'm gonna go stock or for the newer look yet on the R..... hmmmm....

Forget the R, get that TRI-Z. It will flat out eat the aircooled 250R.

I haven't been up to little lawn on trike yet but I bet its a blast with that sandy beach.

Ok forget Lawn, you gonna be up for a ride in Terranceville this summer? Theres a huge sandpit down there and I'm gonna be doing a few good wkends of riding there. Its just off the side of the road about 3 km down into the country, visable from the road.

Oh and I forgot to ask, did your dad sell the bike locally or where did it go?

Was out for a 3 hour ride last night on my Boss's 83 250r. Good laugh. My fathers bike went to Lewin's Cove there in Burin. It had a motorcycle engine swapped into it was the last I heard. When I gets the 81 together I'll get in touch with you and arranged a run home.

Get the TRI-Z!!

That 250R with the bike motor, was it Greg Harfitt that owned it?

Don't suppose you have a spare gas tank with that 250R do you? I'm looking for one locally.

Not sure who it was my Dad sold it too. Yes I do have a spare tank for the 250r. I am going out in the garage to work on my truck now so I check on the tank. I know there is a dent in it. I post back here later.

You know if the 250r with the bike motor still exists?
Ah here are some pics of the spare tank. Question you think this will work:
I have a 02 RM 250 Pipe and silencer here that I may modify to fit my bike.

It seems my engine was all Red at one point in life, some parts cleaner and the red started bleeding out thru the black. Whats the easiest way of getting the black off.

I'll check on the 250R in Lewin's Cove. I know a guy that owned what I thought was a 200X with a Virago 250 motor in it but I could very well be wrong.

I'm interested in that gas tank, PM me with what you want for it.

Oven cleaner sprayed on the black paint will disolve it and make it easier to scrub off. Don't let it sit too long or it will get the red too.

I like the look of that white tank on there.

Ya I like the white tank aswell, its just the Honda stickers look pink. That will have to be changed. BigGreenMachine, I need to have a look at the inside of the white tank first. The Red tank is clean inside but the white one needs work. I let you know if I can get rid of it. I wouldnt want no big money for it.

The rear sprocket is welded onto the rear axle. The tabs are gone and the remains of the tabs are welded to the sprocket. Any ideas, suggustions? You can see on the pic there are no bolts. It is welded on the other side. IS it possible to replace the tabs. Any one have a diagram of this rig? Is it even possible to get it apart with it welded on there like that?

You won't be getting that sprocket off. If the welds are crappy enough, you may be able to pound it off. It shouldn't bother anything if it's straight though, and I think you can still take the whole axle off.

The teeth are worn on that sprocket. I have a new front one and a new chain so I want to replace the rear sprocket aswell. I believe the axle slides out that way so I can grind it off and make the tabs for bolting it on again. Hopefully I will get a phone call on the Tri-z today and wont have to worry about this for awhile.

Hey I also got an 81 250r. If your still wondering about puttin on a skinny front tire I think they look kinda cool the way they are they have their own look ya know. I just got mine together if you wanna c pics I could send ya some. It has quite a few performance upgrades and I gotta tell ya that air cooled 250 is pretty stout. it'll stand straight up in fifth.

I weigh about 150 I'm only 16 though so thats why. Its still a stock 250 that was bored up a little bit, but I guess you could say I got the most out of those CC's. Its gota Keihin flat 36mm, boost bottle, milled head, boyesen Pro-Series Reeds, Accel spark plug wire, non resistor plug, Uni Pod filter(no air-box restrictions) and will soon have a pipe. I really need to invest in a longer swingarm I'm sure you know what I mean with a 300.
