I did a quick search and didnt find much.

What is the best cleaner or method for getting stains out of seats?

Any direction down the right road would be much appreciated

I work in an upholstery shop and we use wax and grease remover on vinyl and leather to clean it up whether we recovered the entire seat or if we just recovered the bottom and trying to make the back rest not look so groady.

wax and grease remover is really good at getting rid of skin oil on seats, grease, oil, dirt, and some stains. it doesnt harm vinyl or leather and doesnt leave a residue. depending on the severity of the stain, you might have to find someone who can dye vinyl and leather to make the stain disappear

we get it in a gallon metal can. you can ususally get it at underground parts stores. I dont know about autozone or o'reilly's but if you guys have a carquest you might be able to get it there. hardware stores that carry lacquer thinner usually carry it as well. look for either blue or green label, one is thinner and one is wax/grease remover.

we just put it on a paper towel and then rub it on the surface of the cover until what ever it is that needs to come off is gone.

After you clean with wax and grease remover, what do you use to protect?

after the wax and grease remover we do a couple things, one, nothing the wax and grease remover leaves a super thin coat across the top of the surface that will not transfer off. with the coat there any kind of grease, oil, or light dirt can be wiped off with a towel. option two is we use a product called PB2, not to be confused with PB blaster penitrating spray, PB2 looks like milk in a squirt bottle. it far exceeds armor all and anything that follows as a protectant. I've put this stuff on old vinyl and had it feeling new in a matter of seconds, the down side to PB2 is that any surface that it is used on becomes really really slick. I recovered the seat on my 1100 Yamaha and for at least 2 weeks I couldnt pin the throttle without having a death grip on the bars or i would slide off the back of the seat. same goes for cars with leather of vinyl seats, wear a seatbelt or you will slide around and then off into the floor boards.

this same stuff can be used on dashes in cars and it will make them look, feel, and even smell like new again for weeks. we get this stuff in bulk so I dont know if it can be bought at the parts stores
