I searched the forums and could not find the procedure to replace the gears. When I try to start it the first time it will turn over just fine, but after that the shaft attached to the kick starter will turn and I can feel it slipping inside. I took the cover off that is right behing the kick start and those gears are fine the problem must be in farther, so how do I fix it? Please help

did you check the alignment of the gears/ratchet? Deepa had a link for service manuals online in his sig.

I hope you’re not intimidated but replacing those gears requires complete disassembly of the engine. The 2 gears on the kick start shaft (in the trans.) wear out because Honda used a weak spring; there was an update to fix it but many trikes did not get the update done. You will need to replace the 2 gears and the spring (make sure you get the updated spring). Unfortunately the kits are discontinued, pm Howdy as he might still have one. The other option is to do like I did and find a good set of gears (I already had some) and then replace the $4 spring.

tearing down the motor was not something I really wanted to do, 2 strokes I have no problem with but every time I have gone into a 4 stroke there has been problems. I will look for howdy and take it from there
