What gearing are you all running in the dunes? Currently I've got the stock 13/39 with a PT high rev, Boysen reeds, unknown porting, 38PJ, +2 swinger, and I'll be using 20x11x10 8 paddle Sand Sharks. I'm an intermediate+ duner with an emphisis on snaking, not dragging. I'm asking because I've not ridden this (or any) ATC in the dunes before.

Is there a good source for steel rears in anything other than 39?
Does running a 12 up front wear down the chain slider?

I can get by on the chain/sprockets that are on there now for one trip but if there's a clear answer then I might replace them first.

thanks

with a 250 based motor I've always run 12/38 or 12/39

I get my sprockets from Dennis Kirk because I drive by there all the time, from 37, 38, or 39 in steel they're almost always in stock.

I've checked DK's website and only see 39. Who's the maker on those?

Any issues with wear on your slider running the 12?

thanks

if you going to 12 in front i would go bigger in the rear because putting a 12 up there is just to tight of a bend for the chain to follow and your more likely to throw you chain. i would go 42 or 43 in the rear if you want more tourque.

I think my 85 might be a different application [shrug]? Should have mentioned it was an 85.

ah, I'm not sure about the 85, being the swingarms etc are diff the sprockets might very well be different as well.

Well, maybe I'll just run and aluminum rear (if I decide a 39 isn't what I want). Even Sprocket Specialists doesn't have a listing for anything but a 39 for an 85. But they've got aluminum in basically any size you want.
