1983 250r sprocket hub/axle

Does anyone know how to remove the sprocket hub from a 1983 250r axle?
We have tried pressing it and it didn't move very easily, so I though I would ask the question before we break anything!!!

I believe those are pressed on while the hub is extremely hot to allow it to expand over the axle splines.

Why do you want to remove it?

We want to get the axle plated, if we don't remove the sprocket hub then the rubber sprocket dampers will get melted in the plating process!!! Also I have no idea what would happen to the aluminium so its best to remove the hub:)
So if we press it off will it go back on okay, or will it be a loose fit?

it's a 50/50 chance once you get the hub off that it will go back on without damaging anything
