I know that the 85 is slightly different than the newer 250r motors (ie86 and up). My kickstarter never slipped before I rebuilt the bottom end. I'm pretty good about not losing any parts, but I thought I might have lost the washer on the kickstart shaft, so I replaced it with a new one. Now the kicker slips sometimes. If my motor never had the spacer and I put one in, could this cause it to slip by not letting the gears fully engage against the clutch basket? Any input by knowledgable bottom end rebuilders would be appreciated.

probably the gears are worn

mine looked the same way, I changed them and the problem stopped. A friend had a similar problem, I sold him new gears and the problem went away. His gears didn't look too bad either. All it takes a alittle. Dumb question, when you put it together, did you put the two springs behind the gear?

the "85" ATC Is Common for that .... Re-Place the Gear's with the "86" .......
