85 350X - The rear brake floater chatters a lot. With just normal riding it keeps going, clink, clink, clink.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Not sure what you mean by the brake floater. If somthing ain't running smoothly it might be a bent or warped disk, Also, the caliper should slide freely on the allen bolt pin, if it doesn't the caliper won't self adjust, 99% of the calipers I see are seized to this pin.

Do you mean the plate that the caliper mounts to? I swapped out my bearing carrier with a Rad mfg carrier and now my plate has some movement and sometimes makes a clattering sound.

When I grab the caliper, I can move it back and forth about 1/2". The caliper bracket moves back and forth too. I am pretty sure the caliper bracket is what's making the noise.
Is is normal to have the caliper bracket move? Or should that be solid?
Thanks!

There are two bolts that go threw the caliper and onto the bracket. One of them has an allen head. The other bolt comes off by a nut right beside the bracket. The bracket should move in and out as you are saying. There should be rubber pieces were these bolts go threw the caliper. It should move with a little force but if you can shake it and it moves thats not right.

On my 86 the caliper bracket was moving like that. It just seemed to have a little to much play. Mine was missing the small piece that goes up towards the front of the bracket. We made one at the farm to make it fit tighter. Seems to work.
If you got pics of where your talking about that would help.

OK, I think I know what you're saying.
My problem most likely involves the caliper bracket then. Because that bracket moves A LOT.
How does that bracket mount to the carrier?
The manual doesn't show it very well, and sorry no pics yet.
Thanks for the help

The caliper mount fits tightly over the bearing carrier and is held on by a large snap ring.
Is your caliper mount aluminum? If it is its probably an aftermarket bearing carrier. I have a Magnum carrier in mine and after about two years it had a lot of play around where the caliper mount fits over the carrier, I took it apart could see the wear in both the carrier and mount. I cut a piece of rubber and slipped it in the gap, seems to help, probably a temporary fix. I emailed the place I got it from and they said they havn't had any complains or recalls on it.

Sorry this is an old thread, but I am having the same problem now. I have a RAD carrier and the entire caliper mount is moving alot and making a terrible noise. If the carrier is worn down were the caliper mount fits around it, does anyone know of a fix (a more permanent fix) other than a piece of rubber? I hate to replace a carrier that is in good shape (bearing wise) because of a brake issue.
