I would like to see a Clean organized thread for all the Cosmetic and Speed/Performance Mods for the 84-85 Tecate. I think I have some good ones. but I would like others. I would like it to be the best I can set her up. Suspension and looks. Motor is totally rebuilt to stock specs. Im liking that Sprock Cool Head allso. Any good rider feedback on that setup. Im sure all the Tecate owners would like to see this list.

A 83/84 kx250 cylinder will make a huge jump for a 84/85 t3 motor. Put a kx250 head gasket in, bassani(if available) or dg national pipe, 36 or 38mm carb, kx reeds and that thing will cook

Meat, theres a good amount of work you can do with the 84/85 Tecate. Mods depend on how wild you want to get.
Extended swingarm and axle are the best mods as the T3 already has a ton of power and the chassis could use refinement.
The Raptor shock swap works wonders for ride quality, as do Progressive fork springs.
If you can, find a 39mm PWK from a KX500 to put on and make sure its jetted right.
Vforce reeds are great, I'd rather the Boysen reed cage because it can be ported.
Gearing of 14/38 with 20 inch tires will give you a top speed equal to that of the 660 Raptor.
The 83/84 KX 250 stator/flywheel is one mod I would have loved to try but my motor blew a gasket before I got the chance.
Shave the cylinder head no more then 0.050 thou and Cometic makes the best top end gasket IMO.
Plastics from the 86/87 Tecate look great on the old T3. I plan to run a white 250R front fender and white "custom" Blaster rear fenders plus a white UFO number plate. The Tecate tanks are butt ugly. I may try out a 81/82 250R gas tank.

i am going with a fresh rebuild on the topend, might throw on the sprock racing billet cool head, v-force 3 reeds and cage, 36-39mm pwk carb, and k/n filter with outerwears cover. have a bassani jwr pipe, and an answer hottip silencer. i am going with the 14/38 sprockets as well. i want to get my hands on a 83/84 kx cylinder, but cant find one. now i'm not sure which ignition i am going with yet, i want to go with a new pvl ignition, but not quite sure yet cuz i havent heard to much about them, so i still might go with regular stock set up. i was thinking of also going with a raptor rear shock, but again, not sure on that yet, looking at what i can get thru either pep or works.

I have a Works Ultracross rear shock on my 85 and I love it. I recently sent it in for a rebuild and it is just about perfect for trail riding and occasional dragging.
I'm reading the power mods with great interest, I think my Tecate is sick. This may sound strange, but mine doesn't sound like the other 2-strokes in the area I ride in. I don't quite know how to say it sounds, I guess more throtty, deeper, kinda a cross between a banshee and a piped 400R. Odd is the word, but then again, I've never heard another Tecate so this may be normal. I have the stock headpipe and DG silencer(recently repacked) with Cobra Sparky on the end of it. Anyway, I got beat this weekend in every drag I participated in. I ran 450 and 400 Hondas, Banshees and some other stuff I don't know all of them by casual looks from behind as they were kicking my tail. Dead last in every drag. Motor is all stock except for boyesen power reeds, but still, dead last, not even close; time to a power upgrade.
I've been working on getting mine lit-up. I put a LED taillight on the end of my PRM 6-pack rack and made a crude aluminum mount to attach an aftermarket headlight in the stock location.
I haven't received it yet, but I ordered a national headpipe from DG, they still list them on their website as available. An email from DG last week said they shipped it and it should arrive on Tuesday. I'm excited, this will be my entry into increased power. I'm tired of getting beat by quads I should outrun.
Keep the Tecate mods coming, I'm learning allot here.

I'd bet you got beat because of your gearing. That and the short swingarm that makes you wheelie off the starting line.

I don't want to clutter the thread with questions, but it is about a mod already spoken about.
Someone please tell me what an 83/84 KX250 cylinder does to increase power. I'm curious. Are the intake and exhaust ports larger? I am learning, but I don't understand how a KX cylinder would increase power.

it has different porting.
i put a dual piston brake caliper off of a ninja on my old t3. i also put a 86 front end on it.

way different porting, two extra exhaust ports on the side of the the main one, two boost ports on the intake side. The porting is much more radical. Also the head has a different dome squish band and stock it uses a much thinner head gasket.
