My 85 has acted up lately. This is after a clutch adjustment, it was fine before.

To get in reverse is fine. To get out I have to stay on the throttle and it will come out of reverse fine. If I come to a stop, it is very hard to come out.

Into first is fine, but difficult sometimes to go into 2nd. If I back out of the throttle only a hair, it will go in fine, but if I let out completely it's hard.

All other is fine.

When I tried to adjust the clutch the screw is difficult to turn, and wants to turn with the nut even if I have ahold of both. How should it be adjusted? I have the manual, but want first hand tips on how to do it.

Could the clutch adjustment be the problem? Shift fork?

Thanks,

Travis

To clarify, I don't think that I did any 'adjusting' when I tried the clutch adjustment, because of the nut and screw not turning independent of each other.

Your suppose to be able to loosent the nut and turn the threaded piece with the slot. It could be 3 things. The clutch adjustment it too tight, Clutch is so worn that there is no adjustment play left, or the shift fork is bent. To adjust the clutch if I recall off the top of my head. You loosen the nut, Turn the threaded bolt with no head to the left until it bottoms out. (sounds like its there already) then back a 1/4 turn to the right. See how that goes. Thats how you adjust it. If you need a clutch or shift fork, let me know. I have 3 spares of each laying around here. LOL. I will fix you up.

Thanks alot Clay. When I checked/adjusted it, the threaded screw was turned all the way to the right, and that's how I left it. So, I need to redo it and adjust it correctly.

Thanks again,

Travis

Thanks Clay, I checked it this afternoon, and it was adjusted all the way to the right. I adjusted all the way to the left and back a 1/4, and MAN it's better!!! hehe

I'm glad I didn't break anything before I fixed it, cause I had pulled on it real hard a time or 2 to get it out of reverse.

Thanks again!
