ok fellas,
As much as I hate to make another thread about this, I need some help on what year 250sx I have. I searched for at least 2 hours and cant seem to find anything on deciphering the vin. Soooo here it is JH3TEO422E?001270, where the question mark is, I think its an M but I cant be sure. Im trying to get another rear end for it and knowing the year will help alot.. Thanks again, Dave

The 10th digit is the identifying digit. Are you 100% sure the 10th is a "E" ( JH3TEO422E?001270 )? I ask because that shows it as a 84, but they didn't make a 84 250sx.

Now if by chance it's a "F" ( 10th digit ) then it's a 85 model.

On my '85 250es it shows model, year, etc on the fork right in front of the tank. If the sx and ex rear ends are the same, i can at least tell you if you have an '85 or '86. If your brake drum has a drum cover it should be an '86 or higher. Mine doesn't have the drum cover, just the drum ('85).

the sticker would have the month and year. it may be an 85 built in 84

It's possible it was made in 84, how ever it would still have the letter in the vin number designating it as a 85 model.
