hey,

i have a 91 ford ranger and it's been sitting for about a year, and well besides the point i pulled the dipstick out lastnight and the whole thing was covered in milky oil! the whole thing was covered! now i know that this could be caused from a number of things like cracked head gaskit, etc. but i'm wondering how i could clean all of this out of my engine, so i dont ruin anything. never had this happen in a car before so im not sure what to do. should i just try and flush it out with repeated oil changes when i fix the problem?

if it been setting it could just be moisture built up in the tube .. i've seen lots of fords do it. drain the oil and see what it looks like. i leave the drain plug out and pour alittle gass threw the engine then fluss the gass out with alittle oil. try flushing it and running it for awhile to see if theres a real problem first. unless you find that all the oil is milky when you drain it.

i just went and drianed it and its about half milky, it looks really gross. i think i cracked the head gaskit, because i cranked it over also and it seems like theres some moisture in the cylinders. it was hardly moving untill i had it turning for a minute of two than it picked up and turned alitlle more like normal.

its had water in it but its been in a heated garage the whole time so i dont think its that severe, would it still run with a split block?

What about a little transmission oil? I have used it in bikes before, it absorbs the moisture I have been told.....

what'd you use to clean it all up? I heard diesel fuel works ok to get moisture out but in not to sure, just looking for a second opinion. Or maby just a rag, degreaser and some elbow grease?

just hand wiped up everything and washed the parts in the parts cleaner, pulled the pan and wiped it out, changed the oil after 15min of running when back together with a filter then again at the end of the week, thats it! you dont really need to pull the pan but i did.

When it was still running, did it get hot? It could be a cracked head. If the engine has a lot of miles on it, it might be easier and cheaper to go buy a wrecked pickup that runs good. What kind of oild are you using? Pennsoil does that sometimes.
