Hi, my name is Jason and I'm new here. Yesterday I just bought my very first ATC. It's a Honda 250R, but the seller was unsure of the year. Was hoping that one of you guys could help me w/ the year. It's not in great shape, but it was hard to go wrong for $100. The rear fender is busted up pretty bad. The compression sounds and feels real good. It's not currently running. The former owner said that it was a bad CDI. In the mix of diagnosing the problem, they misplaced the coil and plug wire. So I need a coil, plug wire, and cdi I guess. Can anybody here help me w/ those parts?

Also, they threw in this terd of an ATC, but they were unsure of the year and engine size. Can you help me ID it? I will sell it for $100. It needs a new pull starter recoil and two rear tires.

the 250r is either 81 or 82. Im pretty sure its an 82 though. Just so you know when you try to find parts the 81-84 250r engines are all the same except the 83-84's were black motors instead of red like the 81-82's. The other is either a 185 or 200 cc but im not sure about the exact model. hope this helps and :welcome:

the so called "turd" is either an 81 or 82 ATC185S.

Both machine could be pretty nice with some work.

Welcome to the boards - enjoy your stay. There are many experts on both of your machines here on the boards.

That bike is a early 80's 250r. that means it has 250cc's of 2 stroke power. There should be a sticker on the frame to tell what year.

OK, thanks for the tip.

I have read that the early 250R's are not as fast as the later 250R's. Is that true and are they a little slower or alot slower?

1980 ATC185 or 200 for the other ATC. 81+ had like 4 inches of shock travel in the front.

with a few mods you can smokem....there isn't too much difference, with the liquids, you can run them alittle longer and harder, supe them up more.
