hyow hard you think this would be to make a trike. i got a couple 225dx front end and a usable 350x rear end minus the shock. i have some shocks for the 225 also. any input would be great. thanks

i just went out and measured then swinger and neck lenghts. the 350x swinger will bolt up with a little over a 1/2 in washers on each side. the steering neck is 7 and 3/4 in. is a trike even close to this? anyways its winter and i think im going to go for it.

I really like those, I almost bought my friends 79 for cheap, I really regret not picking it up. It may have been an oldie, but was a blast to tool around on.
That thing will be awesome as a trike! Good luck with your build

is there any way to make a trike steering stem longer for it ? my 225 stem was like 6 in or something like that.

There was a company that made conversion kits that turned street bikes into trikes, there name was "tricky dicks". There were other companies that made frames that would take street bike engines.
I think if you were to do turn the bike into a trike, you would be better off using the neck shaft and have triple trees custom made and even use the front forks from the street bike. The 750 is heavier than a 350x and the spring rates for the 350x forks would not be enough for the 750. Most aftermarket conversions that used the stock frame also used both the stock shocks. If it was a frame that was meant for the street bike engine, then a monoshock or originally no shock at all for the rear, they made hardtail frames that fit cb750 engines! You would almost have to use a car shock for the rear because of the weight of the 750 being almost double if not more than a 350x, unless you looked into a shock like you would find on a modern 4 wheeler. I'm not sure if the big 700 quads even use a single shock. The trike would be heavy enough that it would be hard to think of it having any kind of long travel suspension.
I personally have a frame that was made for an rd350\rd400 yamaha. It is a monoshock frame. The same frame with different engine mounts was also used to hold the kawasaki 3 cylinder 2-stroke H3 750! If your using most of the stock frame for the 750, your limitation is weight. If you were to engineer a different frame, you would be better off and trying to cram an engine of that size into a 350x would be just a little crazy. Good luck with however you decide to go. Hope this helped.

do you think keeping the 2 rear shocks and monuting them on the outside of the 350x swinger would work? im not looking for something to be jumping and stuff like that just drag racing and riding around.

Maybe a streetbike mono shock would work with the swinger. You would have to fashion a mount under the bike to recieve the shock, though I think this would be easier then mounting the two stock shocks to the 350x swinger.

i think i can just drill holes through each sied of the x swiger and bolt ti down with some big ass bolts.

im not trying to put this project down, im sure its possible to turn into a trike... but i want you to consider the fact that something this heavy would not be very useful except maybe to go in a straight line or mudding in. if you do this, please be careful on that thing.... id hate to see you try to take some fast turns on that beast! ... and if you really just want to turn a street bike into a trike, just get a differnt street bike that well, just isnt so heavy! ok, wish you luck though either way.

If you stick to the stock shocks, I think it might be better to weld some brakets to the swinger. Thats a lot of weight, you dont want to go compromising the integrety of it.
Do you guys think that the brake setup and hubs from an X will handle that kind of weight?

thats what i was thinking to so the swinger does not break. i would probably also have it beefed up a little bit. prolly weld plates of steel around the swinger?
the brackets i could prolly cut the brackets off of the stock 750 swinger

also do you guys think i should extend the swinger? if so how many inches. i was thinking going like +5 but i dont want to weaken the swinger.

DO IT!!! I wanted to do this last year but it wasn't in the budget. I think next season I'll have a H1 750 pinger with trike running gear.

Neither just yet. I want to convert the H1 750 tripple. Still working on my KX500 swap.

 A 750 in a TRI-Z or just the Z running gear on the 750 chassis? I'd love to see some pics of that!

Its not mine...I think I got the pick off 3wheeler.org, probably about a year ago. Kept the pic cause I though for what it is, its a pretty clean conversion.

Thats 4cylinders conversion. Believe he used a 200X rear swingarm and monoshock, 200X front end.
I wanted to do a similar conversion. I would use the 350X parts like you were thinking.
Extend the swingarm 5inches and judge for yourself if you need more. Make the swingarm extension strong by using tubing that fits inside your extension connections.
The 350X forks should be easy enough to adapt. Use the 750 stem on the 350X tripples and it should bolt on.
Be careful, 750 streetbike motor on a short chassis. Make it low and wide and don't half arse it.

Pictures of the "Hi Performance Atv" frame with the locked up R5 engine in it. It now has a titled RD350 engine in it, but doesn't look any prettier. Monoshock, with a hollow rear axle, and the rear disc brake is actually a front brake of an RD350. It is how the frame was originally set up. The same frame with different engine mounts fits an H3 Kawasaki 750 triple. The front triple trees are steel and they hold the stock R5 front forks. R5 and RD350 engines are from Yamaha, R5 has no reeds, RD350 has reeds and both are 2-stroke, 2-cylinder 350cc engines.

throw the motor and electrics into a rolling 350x, it will save you alot of hassle. then part the rest of the 750 out on ebay, as cb750 parts in good shape are as good as gold. ive owned somewhere around 40-50 750's.
parting out the 750, if its in good shape, will get you enough to buy a rolling 350x if you do it right.
good luck

for the front end i would say use the 750's forks and tripple tree clamps. then just take the triple tree clamps to a machine shop (or do it yourself if you have the right tools) and have them cut on each side and extended, so they are wider and hold the forks further apart so theres room for a wider tire. It shouldnt be too difficult, I know board members have done similar stuff to put inverted forks on trikes. If you do it yourself, make a good jig so everything is aligned good before you start welding. Make sure they are welded really solid too.
By doing it this way, you don't have to worry about extending the steering stem or having the front springs be too light weight and you wouldnt have to worry about steering stem bearings matching up either.
oh and by the way since your turning it into a trike, would you be interested in selling the headlight and front turn signals? i might be interested in the passenger footpegs too, you can pm me. I just got a 1975 cb550f and its missing a few parts. I was really considering doing a trike conversion on it, but decided not to since I dont have a trike rearend to use.
sorry for the long post but good luck for however you decide to do it, i cant wait to see the finished product

This three wheeler started out with an 1981 honda CB 750 motorcycle and ended up with Vance & Hines 4 into1 special order exhaust polished and jeted carbs. Aftermarket fenders, minor engine work, custom seat, custom forks, wheelie bar, paddles and a lot of TLC. I will tell you one thing this machine will roll so put on your seat belt!!!

hey, just my 2cents, been there done that. used the back half of the 200x frame, for shock, seat, etc. find a donor trike, saves a lot of fabrication. 200x tripple tube is hollow, just cut it and extend it. don't have too much fun.
