hello..right then,in the last few months i've moved to a house right by the beach and discovered the JOY of three wheelers!i've got an idea...i have a sweet motor in a 200e(chain drive) with knackered chain and sprockets and also a 200es(shafty)with a horrible engine,smoky,rattly,gutless...was wondering if any one has attempted a shaft drive conversion..ie taking off all the chaindrive related parts and exposing the countershaft sprocket then bolting all the shaftdrive bits in it's place.has anyone attempted this before?will i find a hidden problem later down the line?!any info hugely appreciated, love the site, cheers Rory:p

by the way just thought i'd add,i want it shaftdrive because it's less hasslle with the sand not because i'm too tight to buy a chain and sprockets!although it would be a bonus...cheers..how do i get pics in here?then i could show everyone...??thx

I would call up a wreckers and find some good sprockets.. shouldnt cost ya too much. Good to see someone else from New Zealand.

I think the cases MIGHT be the same, but not positive.. check out the part numbers on yamaha-motor.com.

If you make it shaft, you will have to use the shaft drive trike's frame...it will not work with the chain drive frame...

Seems like a lot of work though, sprokets and a chain would be about $50 or $60 i would think?

Welcome aboad!

You are talking about Honda trikes, right?

You can swap out the top ends, they are the same thing.

Why dont ya just get new sprokets? wouldnt that be cheaper?

But I guess you get shaft drive if you go the other way.

Yep, there is a fella on trademe who is wrecking out a whole lot of 200e's and es. Maybe he has a good set of sprockets.

I have a good rear sprocket you can have here if you want it. Yours for the price of postage. Might also have a good front, but would have to check up on that.
