I am building up my 85 r .I am trying to build up the rear end strong but am having to get used parts.I want to eliminate the chain flying off and killing a case.I want to get a tapered bearing carrier along with an anti fade nut.It looks like most of the carriers are for the 86 and then the trx 250r.Can I swap in the 86 or trx swingarm.is there any better years to look for in the trx swingarms. If anyone has one pm me,thanx

i know you can bolt in a 86 atc swingarm. you will need the brake bracket, and the carrier bearing, i dont know if the TRX one will work i think it won't . but not sure.

the axle i think is the same. from 85 to all of them. but agin not sure.

here is a nice double row. not a taperd . but good price and good brand.

and the anti fade nuts, and aftermarket lock nuts fit damn nere all of the honda bike models

the carrier and the brake caliper mount are the 2 big things between teh 85 and 86 swingarm.

what i would like it if there was a way to put one on the 89 style aluminum swing arm on the ATC that would be sick. i think it is longer or shorter though ?. longer is cool shorter not good.

85 atc bearing carrier is different, all the other years are the same.
Same thing for the axle.
The 85-86 swing arm are the same, but I'm not sure.
THe 87+ swing are is 1 inch shorter so I would not put it on my trike unless you want to wheelie all day long.

85-86 swinging is not the same it is a little different by the way the rear claiper mounts.

85 axel is solid....86 axel is hollow ....
the sprocket bolts are bigger and tappered on the 86

the axle is different!! the carrier is different!!! THE BRAKE STAY IS DIFFERENT TOO,,,,,,,, if you have good components why switch to 86????
i have a dual row carrier in the swinger on the 500 its all 85 and i have no problems !!! make sure everything is in good shape is all you have to do,,,,,,,

The only reason I was considering it ,before I found that the axle and brake stay is different to ,Is its easier to find a good carrier used.I guess I will kepp hunting, unless someone here has one.thanx guys

Ok,How about those anti fade nuts compared to the cheaper locking nuts. Are the cheaper lock nuts pretty good.

i have a STOCK lock nut setup and i see no reason to spend the big $$$$$$ unless you want to, i also just picked up a used lonestar axle for a 86,,, and it works in a 85 carrier even though the sprocket mounting is different,,, cheap shot for the other site !!!  :D :D :D

I was reading about the tapered bearing carriers and they said make sure to ge a better nut for them Is what got me to thinking about that .Maybe I will just get a double row one and use the stock nut or a cheap lock nut.Now If I can just find a good deal on one that will go in this 85.

Is it just the axle end of the swinger thats different? Well I mean, will an 86 swinger (and components) fit an 85 frame? What is the advantage to tapered bearings and can they be used with a stock carrier?

the bearing carrier is different so the axles are not interchangable, the 85' also has a stud on the side of the swingarm to mount brake caliper linkage, the while the 86' does not have a stud or use linkage. either set up can be put on either year bike.
