Im's trying to reconstruct the rearend (bearing carier/axle) on my 84 200s. The bearing surfaces are wore down as are the seal surfaces. I have new bearings and such but I need to have the axel remachined. Is this worth having a machine shop do or should i just look for a replacement one? Also, their was no spacer inside the beraing carier (between the bearings) when i removed the old bearings, as someone told me their should be? is this true? Any help would be appriciate, this things been a pain in the ass since i got it.

just get another one. it will not be cost efective to repair.
when a shaft is worn down and they have to build it back up. they weld over the area to build it up then they machine it down back to spec. that will cost some coin and it has to be done by a crank shaft rebuilder the rite way , or it will loose it's temper and be weak.
and yes it needs a tube in between the bearings.
i found you one on ebay. i am a ebay fanatic.
item # 260047471414
it has everything the carrier , the axle , bearings, brake drum.
