First - a little history:
I found a 200ES and a complete parts 200ES for sale and bought them (actually they are Shelly's machines). The previous owner told me the rear end went out of one - so he swapped it with the parts bike. A year later and he said the rear end went out of the other one - thus him selling them to us. I have never heard of any rear-end troubles from 200ES owners. (although I have not yet searched too hard yet)
Current Troubleshooting:
Not sure where to start looking here. If I put it in gear, I can free wheel it. The hi-lo-reverse lever seems to engage and disengage in the different positions OK. Where should I start looking? clutch? driveshaft splines?????
From what the previous owner has told me, the rear went out, so he swapped them. This must have fixed him for a while, because he rode it for another year. But the problem must be deeper than this, because I can not see going through 2 rear ends in a years time. I am leaning towards splines at this time. I would think I could here some grinding while free wheeling - but it is quiet.
Any insight from Big Red 200ES owners???? I feel I should start at the driveshaft and work my way out from there. Let me know.
Thanks,
ATCTim
