What do i need to do to put an 88/89 trx shock on my 86 R? I know the trx shock is just a little shorter, but i thought I also heard that there was some other difference.
the resevoir hose is longer on the TRX shocks.

I measured these last year I think and the shocks are the same length, the dog bones are different lengths though. I was going to do this mod but I didn't like how the rezzy line was longer so I had my original rebuilt.

I never checked that but I can tonight if you like. I remember Dammit saying they were different size holes but I will grab an 88, 87 and 85 shock and compare them.

Why not swap the hose from the ATC to the TRX shock ?
Would this work or ???

The hole is not the same, 88/89 is 1 mm larger than the 85/86. I didn't get a chance to check a 87 shock, I thought I had a couple 87's but one seems to be MIA.

I have this on both of my 250r's. 86-89 trx250r had a narrower top mount. 86 trx is pretty much exactly the same as 86 atc with the expection of top shock top mount, valving, and ressy hose. I use a 86-89 pieces on my bikes. I like the 86 and up bottom bolt, as the 85's bend easy. 87-89 trx isn't much different than 86 atc/trx except for the dog bone length. To your question, yes, it will work, you will need a 86 and up linkege bushings and bottom bolt. I put some washers in the top shock mount to take up the space. One thing to be aware of, 88/89 trx shocks are for a shorter swinger, it will be soft on a 85-87 length swinger.

What about if I use the long dog bone on my 85 atc250r (with a 86 rear end)? Will it be lower or what?

the ratio won't be correct for the shock, it will be too soft and sit too low
