i got a 1984 honda atc 110 and when its running there is no noise in the motor but when you roll it a little it sounds like the timing chain is hitting the case and will make that noise till you roll it a little further then it stops!! i put a screwdriver to the case and listened to see where its lowdest and it sounds like the cam side case mabey even the clutch a litle its hard to tell can anyone help me figure this out before i tear the motor down. it was just tore down partal by the guy i got it from but he just had the clutch cover off i think:cry:

it is not the engine then.
i used to jam in between high and low range on mine while i was riding and after a while maine strted to make some funny noises. have you been doing this?
is your chain loose?
and whatever it is it hardly matters on a 110 ,you cant kill these things. like i said it is not the engine ,it is something drive related. just run it. and changing the oil never hurt nothing eather.
i know just saying to run it is sort of stupid advise. but what are you going to do,it works it just makes a little noise when you push it in nutral.i personaly would not care i would rather spend a few hundered dollars on a 250r than a 110.i would just run the snot out of the 110. when it realy broke then i would fix it.it probably wont even brake 110's are the best bikes ever. the only thing ever wrong with them is the carburetor. just change the oil and keep the pull cord in good shape and they won't let you down. this is my experience with them.

no but i think the prevous owner did that i got another parts motor i could switch all the hi low gears out if you think that would fix it. the chain is normal tension the only reason i want to fix this is so i can sell it to buy parts for my other good 110 thats in exelent contition with a aftermarket frame and i want to get a 350 x in the future so i need to get rid of some project

i dont know for sure. i could not posibly know anything for sure at this point realy.
but if you got your self a manual and took the engine apart and inspected and measured everything in the transmission i am sure you would find something screwed up . if you keep all the parts nice and lined up and marked and labeled , and take notes if you have to. doing that and with the book ,i am sure you could get it all back together again. taking notes and drawing pictures even taking pictuers is something i do all the time building engines. and i have been building engine for a long time. it makes it easy if you are not familiar with something. after you do it you dont need to anymore. but for the first time it sure helps.
i get out some cardboard and lay everything out nice and clean and neat. and go at it with concentration.
clean and well lit is key. it will be fun once you stop agonizing about it and just jump in with both feet.
good luck.
