So my buddy and I have been planning for this Halloween Glamis trip since the last trip over Presidents Day. We both ride 85' ATC250R's. We planned to leave at 5 a.m. on Friday morning to get an early start out from Tucson. So I get to his house to load up my Trike on his trailer....and guess what...his is gone off the trailer. Someone cut the locks and straps holding it on the trailer and took it. They also broke into his suburan, and stole all his riding gear, oil, and CDs.

My buddy is completely destroyed after loosing his baby. This is terrible for him...he doesnt have much money and someone stole the one thing that really gives him enjoyment.

So...I thought I would put a post up with a pic in case anyone sees it around in AZ.

I just glad I decided not to load mine up the weekend before and leave it with him so that we woulnt have to load it up at 5 in the morning....

All I can say is that I hate people.....

So these pics are a little older and dont show too much. The left side of the seat(when sitting on it) has a tear close to the gas tank...can barely see it on the pic from the front. It also has metal plates bolted to the fenders to hold the cracks form his spill over presidents day. Finally it has a custom extended swingarm that looks like a stock swinger(i.e. it is gold and all). Also it will not have these rear tires and rims...because it had paddles on it when it was stolen.

Hey desert demon, I'll definetly keep a eye out. Im always advertising that Im looking for ATCs in the classifieds/craigslist etc. But if I do get a call its from trikes thats been abandoned in someones backyard. Oh and hello from a fellow Tucsonan. Jim

Sorry to hear this news. That is way wrong. People just take what they want these days, no matter how you lock it down.
I've had a cycle stolen once and I know how it feels when your pride and joy is gone.
Then they have enough balls to take the other stuff too? Damn!
Maybe they're fairly local, and you'll get lucky........

Ok so I just talked to my buddy and here is his vin number...just in case someone tries to buy it or sees it around.

VIN #JH3TB0601FC424022

The only thing that was strange was that they didnt take his gas for the trip....he had 15 gallons mixed up and ready to go. They stole everything else that they could for his bike(even extra spark plugs)

He is hoping it was stolen by local people and is still around to be found. Hopefully it didn't go straight to Mexico like everything else that is stolen in Tucson....or set on fire out in the desert (I had a buddy who had is car stolen and run into the desert and set on fire)

Thanks to all for looking out for for this bike.

i had my rancher stolen the day after i baught it. it had 12 miles on it,i ran inside a store to get a pack of smokes and it was gone. it was about 2 in the morning. i called teh cops waited a hour for them made the report.

anyway . the next day i went back up there and drove around all day and all night searching every riding area in south florida and my friends were looking while they rode around all over in florida city the very bottom of mainland florida.

they found it . a couple of _______ were riding it and they had crashed it bent the rim, handel bars, broke the front plastic, bent teh frame a little bashed in the bumber, and broke a pice off teh back rack, who ever crashed it must of been in teh hospital.

my advice to you and you friend is to go to every riding area you can .and every bad neibor hood and just look look hard. and dont go talking to the people in those riding areas or neibor hoods about it. you dont want to make the bike hot because they will chop it or dump it. not every one out there is your friend some one will tip them off. you need to look your self. and pack pistols like we did.

the cops wont do nothing to retrive your bike. they will file a report and that is it. you need to hunt it doun.

some one will be riding this thing in a neiborhood tonight. night time is a good time to go to the riding spots also.

In addition to reporting it stolen with the Police I'd call around to every single bike shop in a hundred mile radius and give them the vin # and a description of the machine, and any problems it might have where someone would be buying parts for it. Hope it turns up for your friend.

Hey do you know Brian over by irvington and mission? He works on a bunch of these things and alot of folks bring their dirt toys to him, if you know him you might give him a heads up, maybe he can keep a eye out. I know hes at the swap meet almost every weekend buying almost every one of these things, usually the ones that don't run, sometimes I actually get lucky and find one that he overlooks. Jim

Dammit!

Start keeping a very close eye on ebay for parts that came from that bike.

Unfortunately I do not know anyone else that rides here and I do my own work on my trike, so I do not know Brian. I could really see this being sold at a swap meet though. It seems common that many trikes do not have titles these days.

Bastards! Sorry to hear about your friends misfortune. Seems to me if they cut the locks they are hardcore theives, having bolt cutters with them or a hacksaw maybe.
I would definitely keep an eye on ebay. What goes around comes around. Those bastards will get theirs one day.

That really sucks.....I never leave my Bikes trikes or anything out around here. Im telling you i see at least 50 more new beaners in town every day and not one speaks english. Thank god i live way out in the boonys lol i dont have to worry much about my stuff in a small town like this but still im not going to take the chance. But seriously i know how it feels to lose a bike, Mine is down an out as we speek and i miss the hell out of it. Usualy on days i get pissed or anoyed i go hop on my trike and hit the trails and dirt roads around here. now i just have to deal with it lol at least for another week or so. Thats one thing though that sucks about most trikes......they dont have titles so any asshole the decides he wants your can just go take it and swap a few parts and say its his. Good luck finding it though.

Dood that sucks bad! I just got back from being at Glamis since last Thursday and I have to say I saw more late model 250Rs than ever before. And to think we didn't lock up our rides every night there either. Guess we really should. Wish we really had a way to track that one back down for ya, so hopefully it'll show.

250RDesertDemon
10-31-2006, 03:49 PM
Yeah...Im a lot more anal with my 250R than my buddy was with his. I always kept it in a garage or had it in the back of my truck with the tailgate locked with it backed up to my house. When I go to Glamis I use a cable lock that has its own built in lock, so they cant cut it as easily as a padlock. I pretty much sleep on it too. But even then, something could happen.

I just dont trust people at all, especially here in Tucson. I think my buddy has definately learned that people are assholes and will steal anything.

Now if we could only find it somewhere.....

Man that really sucks......Here in Indiana it seems no one steals...atleast trikes. I keep a few behind my garage unlocked or anything. Maybe I should start locking them up or something. I'd be in tears if any of my babys were stolen.

dam man i am sorry to hear that... about 5 years ago i spent all my savings on a 1983 honda atc 110, and it got stolen a year or 2 later. I didn't have the VIN# written down, and didn't see it around at all. no luck, we told police but they couldn't do much without a #.

it looks in the pics that you live in a fairly remote area? Its sad to say but sometimes you think you know people more than you really do. A neigbor of mine a few years back stole a xr80 dirtbike from me. It turned up in the woods under a tarp with all the wiring chopped. I would open minded and thing about ALL the possibilities. But good luck finding it.

thanks for taking the words out of my mouth ceaser:beer and to add to that , just cause youre hispanic doesnt make you a beaner or a thief, thieves come in all colors shapes and sizes!!! Me being puerto rican i am really offended by that crap and would not hesitate to beat the pulp out of any a-hole who refers to me as A "Beaner" point blank, I have paid good money for all of my trikes and parts and would not steal someone elses rides for any reason. quick question for you guys would you be any less pissed if you found out the thief happend to be a white guy?

well i read almost the first page...i'd say go with PowerTech's plan of attack, set your trike up as bait, but don't do it at your friends quite yet, wait for a couple weeks for that...first try the bait at your house...i'd say dogs would be the best to let the pricks learn a lesson, but keep them outa sight even during the day...them kinda ppl tend to "scope out" a place before hitting it...oh and don't think they wont do it in the pouring rain!!! Good luck!

i know it's late and sorry to hear what has happen but i was looking in Chaparral street bike catalog and found out that they have an disk lock for your bike with an alarm on it so i got one for my atc 500r and it work good. i'm planning on getting 3 more and put 2 on each bike front and rear rotor...it's called: XENA SECURITY DISC LOCK XR-1 SERIES ALARM 110bD siren $64.99. BUT THEY HAVE 3 DIFFERENT KINDS. this would help out...

I use those on my trikes and dirt bike whenever i take them out. they work great. and if the thief tries to ride off he wont be getting very far.

Yeah...dogs would have been a good idea. My buddy has dogs too, that would have barked like mad if someone was there trying to steal something. Too bad they put the dogs in the kennel that evening because we were leaving town and his wife was taking a separate trip too. Seems like they may have been scoping it out...saw that it was loaded on the trailer and that the dogs were gone..and snatched it. So these people probably knew that he had dogs when they were scoping out the place.

That disk lock looks cool cause it has an alarm on it..would definitely be nice if you were close by to hear it....may have to get me one or two of those.

Right now I'm thinking about a chip. You know how you can get your dog chipped in case he runs away? Why dosent someone start offering a product like that for ATV's and cars? Its a huge market, I would buy one for each of my rides!

Just think if your bike got stolen, and you were able to go directly to the persons house that stole it with police!

That would be great!

Theres actually a 85' r on ebay right no in Mesa AZ. It looks like it has the same tires as the one in the pic. Looks similar but not completely alike.

Broadcasting your bike in your yard is foolish. If it don't work everyone in town (cops included) know where your bike is.
If they broke into his truck and stole cds you could have had it fingerprinted.
People could donate old parts?
I Don't run hondas only kawasaki's so I can't help out.

Wow man that sux, I've had a bike stolen *Edited**Edited*. Good luck in finding it or gettin any hints on it. Somebody is stealing quads and stuff around here lately. My buddies gocart got stolen and my sisters souped up banshee. Turned out the guy was selling the banshee in my town for $100 and would only ride it at night to a persons house that was intrested in buying it, then he backed out when we tried to set him up. I always lock my tailgot on my truck and back up to a tree and I lock the quad down w/ 20,000lb cap chain in 4 points on the thing. I got a sensitive alarm that goes off if u tap the truck so nobodies steal my bike unless they are pro.

i'm extremely sorry to hear about that

i've personally had 8 or 9 stolen from me in a period of over 2 days. (we keep ours at our grandmas farm) and during the weekday when we're all at school and work, a couple of assholes came and stole them. (which we know who did it now but the police have yet to do anything to them or about it) my atc250r was one of the ones stolen, along with my blaster, and a bunch of others that belonged to others in my family.
