I recently had my 85 Z re sleeved with LA sleeve and coolant has been spilling out of the resi jug breather since then. My machinist said I might have problems with overheating due to the thickness of the sleeve and the amount of boring he had to do. Has anyone else had this problem? Eveything else checks on the bike no leaks, impeller working well, heads not warped, rad looks good (clean in and out), reacts the same with thermo in or out, cap holds pressure. If I drive it like my wife would its o.k. but really what fun would that be. Any help appreciated.

hey, try a jet change/needle adjust. may run a little warmer with tighter clearance.

make sure that your thermostat is working....yes if you didnt know the tri z has a thermostat just like a car does... make sure it works....

The bike reacts the same with the thermostat in or out and it is working correctly according to the test used in the manual. I don't think messing with the jetting is gonna help. My plugs are a nice choclate brown and the bike runs normally throughout the throttle range. I know others have used LA sleeve here. Let me know how it worked for you. Thanks.

I had this happen on my recent bigbore build. The sleeve counter sunk a couple thou. I just took my studs out and sanded everything down flat. Granted, we are only talking 5 TO 10 thousands.

mine was air cooled but i hadnt had any problems
you can get some cooler antifreeze-- i think all of them could use it
-royal purple-i think is one

Finally had time to take the top end down and I see the sleeve isn't lined up on one side but flush on the other. Its obvious now but the first time I had the head off it seemed fine all around. I will post an update when I get time to put it back together and have it runnin tickety-boo. Thanks for the suggestions.

take some pics of the cylinder, those sleeves have "hats" on them so they CANT go up or down when the head is on, if they did a crappy job which it sounds like he did it wont be even with the top deck of the cylinder. the thickness of the sleeve wont affect the cooling of the motor enough to EVER notice, sounds like you have a popped head gasket to me and you are jump pumping the radiator with pressure thus pump antifreeze out of the overflow...but i wouldnt be able to tell you for sure without a pic...
