View Full Version : Should I sell my PT hi-Rev for a Type 6?

I've been searching the forums for threads concerning Paul Turner pipes, and I still have a couple of questions not yet answered.:wondering
I have the Hi-Rev pipe right now.
I am considering either a Rad Valve, or the ESR cage for reeds.
I have a Keihin 36mm quadvent, (which seems very similar to an AirStryker) on it's way right now.
I plan on trail riding in the summer, and ice-racing in the winter, so I would still like some decent bottom-end left, but also good mid to top-end hit.
Back when I was still running my R 10 years ago, I had the DG on it, and it was okay, but fell quite flat on top.
I really haven't found a solid answer as to how much bottom end the Hi-Rev has versus stock, or the old DG.
Some say you lose some, some say the same, and some say you gain a little bottom with the Hi-Rev.
I have read that the Type 6 falls a little flat on top.
I just don't want to have to always be slipping the clutch, or keeping the R's way up all the time during normal riding, although I don't mind a little.
How is the Hi-rev in normal woods riding.
What are the differences in powerband between the Type 6 and the Hi-Rev?

I can't answer the question but I have a very nice type 6 I might be willing to trade if your high rev is in comparable condition (ie: zero dings and very little rust).

I may consider it. Pipe is chromed, like new condition. How did you like the Type 6 and what kind of powerband did it have? Where you looking at selling it, as you aren't using it, or still using it, but will trade? The reason I ask, is that it wouldn't be bad to have both.:D Then I could jet a carb for each pipe, and switch whenever I feel like it, or keep the pipe I like. At this point, I may just run the Hi-Rev. I still need parts for the R yet, and that equals money, and the parts I need are the wallet thinning ones:twisted: I am hoping I will have it done by spring of "07". Now that the motor is together, I'm getting real itchy:D

I have never run the type 6. It's hanging on the wall. It is not chromed so if we traded I'd have to offer up some cash to make it even but if your's really is in good shape I'd be willing to do that. I ride dunes only with my R so I don't really have much use for the type 6. I've been keeping it to possibly put on my next R which will be setup for desert riding.

Edit: I just got a high rev as well but it's a little beat up.

Edit 2: By the way, the difference in outer diameter is barely different between them. The main difference is in the shape. The "bubble" (for lack of a better term is closer to the motor on the high rev.

If you want to get rid of the Hi-Rev, I will buy it from you for a price you decide. I'm looking to buy a Hi-Rev, and if I can save some money by not buying new, I will. That is if Dammit doesn't trade you/you don't trade Dammit.

If your going to ice race your going to want to keep that hi rev pipe, ice racing is all top end except for your starts.

Defintitely. I used to ice-race it when I got it. You are right on that one.
I'm just wondering how the pipe is gonna be for everyday type use, too.
I imagine I could just gear a little differently, as well.
The only thing I am concerned about is low-end.
I don't need much, but if it is non-existent with the Hi-Rev, I may consider the Type 6.
Oh..by the way x.system.....the swinger bushings I got from you are nice stuff.
I won't have a chance to ride them for a while, but they fit nice, and got rid of some headches with the stock stuff.
What's an average life for them in hours?

well i ahve ran both the type 6,and high rev.the type 6 has a nasty low end hit,and actually pulled real good all the way.the only thing i noticed on the high rev was the same low end hit,but it pulls way harder, way longer.i noticed no low end loss between the 2.i was mainly trail ridin when i got my first p.t. so i opted for the type 6.i had no regrets switchin, and only noticed a gain in the mid-top end pull.

That was my main concern. The loss of low end. I have plenty of time left before the R is mobile, but I will keep the Hi-Rev, and see how it pans out.
If I don't like it, which I am starting to doubt, someone here is gonna have one for a good price this summer.

I'll probably still have the type 6 so send me a pm if that happens.

I will definitely do that if I decide to switch. Kinda hoping I do like the pipe. It sure does look nice.:D I have the pipe and some of my other "itchy goodies" stored at my parents place in the U.P. That way, I don't get my itchy fingers on the stuff too soon, and rush my build;) Otherwise I would likely be using my R now half-assed done.
