I found a 86 350X for sale and I am going to look at it this weekend. (If its still there) Its a 3 hour drive to the location so I am going with cash in hand. I wish he had pics of it, so I am going in blind. I did talk to him and asked about the tires, he said it has good 300EX tires on the rears. He said the plastic had no cracks and said the motor runs good.

I just need to know what I should look for when checking this thing out?

If I find any problems how much should I try to chew him down?

Check for hub play all around (Grab the rear tire one at a time, and see if it moves around on the axle, same with the front), leaks from the motor, take the seat off to see how straight the frame looks, and anything else you can get your hands on. Does the motor smoke? Cables, bars, Everything.

When I go to check out a new bike I go over it with a fine tooth comb. If you run into problems, it all depends on how much the total price is, and what the cost to fix the issue is.

I would suggest you surf ebay for a while for some basic 350x parts, that way you can go with a knowledge of what certain parts cost to replace.

Good luck

Look closely for cracks in the frame.

Yep,Cracks in the frame - Places to look are by the rear seat gromets (Rubbers hole),by the footpegs on verticle frame tube -under the motor, and do a compression check!! These are things I always look at on the 350X's!!

also check the case and mag cover for damage from the drive chain.
